Sorry to dash your hopes, ForesterGC. The developers have stated in this forum that there will be a 3D "engine" for GalCiv II. However, the current plan is to have the map play like a 2D map. The objects on the map will be rendered using a 3D engine to give them visual flair, and the 3D engine will allow for zooming in and out, but no MOO3 style 3D galaxy. Now for my opinion, as if you'd asked for it: Although a 3D galaxy is more realistic, many would question whether it re

Then why do women vote for (in your words) "war-mongering" leaders?
Two words: Force feedback. ;)
Dooku, I've "borrowed" some techs as well. I didn't have to pump a lot of money into it either. I was at Advanced Intel and had several (if not all) espionage techs.
The space shark is more prevolent in the expansion pack, but with some changes. They only have a movement rate of 1, so they are easy for ships to avoid. The ones that come from the space shark "egg" anomolies start out fairly weak, with only 10 hp or so. Eventually you will come to see them as a minor obstical in most games.
I think the single best thing that they could do for the game has already been suggested by frogboy himself: 1) Starbase area of effect includes an area centered on the starbase and 2)Limit the number of starbases bases on logistics points. Result of change: The game will be more fun because people will have to play more realisticly and no more cheeses like building a kazillion trade starbases or party palaces.
Humans are always so anxious to believe in magic, or aliens, or some supernatural explanation for why something happens... or that the GalCiv A.I. is playing by different rules.

Kudos to the GalCiv team on a great game, exp. pack and support! :D
Yes, I see what Cotal's plan is. Very clever Cotal. I wish I'd thought of it, but then, I probably wouldn't have the guts to do it.
Very nice if I cared about points, or played on a small map I do not think I would try it. The strategy may work but I do not think this is how a win was intended.
Frankly, I don't think any kind of win was intended for the maso level. The A.I. just has way too much of an advantange to play a game in a "normal" manner and expect to win. Some kind of contrived strategy is a must to win at that level. ~SDC~
Just make sure you re-register everything, using the same information as before. :) ~SDC~
I like that idea Nomo, and so I must add to it: Why not have little shuttles running between the starbases and the nearest planets, kinda like the little trade ships do on a trade route. In order to keep the starbase functioning at full capacity the shuttles must arrive at the starbase on regular intervals. If too many months go by without a resupply shuttle, the starbase effectiveness starts to drop. This way, the further a starbase is away from a planet the longer the shuttle runs are and thu
You guys got funny names. Hey! You're not one of these guys! Quit reading other peoples private threads! ~SDC~
One theory is that the latest version is analyzing the game and submitting more detailed information than it did in 1.05. It's also possible that as more games are submitted to the metaverse, it is just taking longer to do all the re-calcs for user stats, medals, empire rankings, etc. Keep in mind it is doing a lot of caclulations all on the fly whenever submissions are made. Perhaps it waits until all this is done before it gives the thumbs up message.
How about a list of all starbases like the planet list? That would make it a lot easier to manage them without searching all over the map.
Thanks! I hope to see more Jedi and Sith join me!
I think the term "The White Council" sounded racist. They never intended it that way, but is was causing some confusion and I'm guessing they figured it was best to try something else.
Oh yeah, other cheeses are still up for grab. ;)
In case someone dosen't know this, the fastest way (I know of) to reassign rally points is as follows: +Bring up your planet list on the right-hand panel. +Double click on the first planet to open the planet screen. +Open the rally point assignment panel for the planet. +Set the rally point. +Leave the planet & rally point screens open and click on the next planet in the list. +Set the rally point for the next planet. +Click the 3rd planet... and so on.
My last 2 maso games I won without using ctrl-n. I just took what I got to start. I did this based on a thread started a while ago by Maxtipherous (see link here: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=96212#96685) I am not trying to brag about my victories here, I just want to point out that I don't think the colonization phase is as important as I used to (and many others still) think. Yes, you are behind at first -- but it's very possible to come from behind and win without makin
I like create a central rally point and send all of my constructors there automatically. This gives me huge pool of dozens of constructors right where I expect them to be. I then fleet them up and distribute them as needed -- kind of like an airline hub. It's not as efficient for the crew of the constructors because of all the extra traveling they do, but it makes my turn manegment way more efficient. If you like my idea best, join the Jedi Republic. Good thinking, LDiCesare. I'm hoping the devs are way ahead of you on that one.
They are there just for fun. Use them or don't - it's up to you. They also make it easy to test out some "what if" scenarios.
Oops. :p Some minds are more amazing than others. edit: Wait a minute! I still don't see my error... am I missing something? [Message Edited]
