Hey there Maxpublic. It isn't open, so the source isn't available. Basically from what I have seen, he only posts information about the mechanics behind the AI, or in this case the source code, when he is getting fed up/irritated with something. [Apologies if this is an oversimplification or an incorrect assessment Frogboy] In any case, I'd have to say that it sounds like their is a problem. I'd also like to say that I too find any accusations of the AI cheating to
E-Tigger
I had this problem for the first time tiwh 1.04. I uninstalled just GalCiv, reinstalled and the ptch was applied fine.
1) Why would that be cheating using a non-modded one for fairness sake? 2) I would say that the war/extort is in need of fixing. Regardless of use or not, it says something about the AI that it accepts this.
So... not such a great idea?
How about creating a metaverse ranking ladder based solely on pregenerated maps? This way there is a level playing field for everyone. Release a map, have X period of time to generate scores from it and then rank based on that period. Then release another one, or allow people to generate them somehow and use those. And keep that seperate from the standard metaverse that uses random maps. No issues with someone ctrl-n to death for a better position, etc. I
FYI They are all AI ships that are self-named.
For those of you who haven't read Iain Banks, I recommend his Culture novels as quite good Sci-Fi. Link to ship names used in those books: http://www.saunalahti.fi/~mjhuur1/projects/banks/ships.html
Sure, it isn't a game killer, but it is still annoying. Sure, the score might be a few points different. Maybe more, point is that it shouldn't be different. It is the same game - just more reloads. A lot of things are `minor' and that's great, just trying to make it better. They said save game reload times would be longer if they save the influence etc. How much longer? Is that so much of a big deal?
I have no problems with the Torian's working as they do. The problem is that they don't have an alternative victory option. They are a "good" race. They shouldn't use mass drivers etc. And you point out that you should have lost. Technically you did. TKO, it just never happened. If they had "Beyond Torian" they probably would have beat you to the end. Game Over. Needs fixing. They should be able to tech victory and just leave the game perhaps... not sure about cons
This becomes IMO more of a problem with score being tied into play time. eg. Two theoretical identical games except for reloads, the one that doesn't reload will have the higher score. That's not right.
As an addendum regarding this: [[ I don't like the idea with the Starbase support buildings just because it would help big empires and punish small empires that want to have lots of starbases. I liked the Idea of making the maintanance cost for SB's dependant on the distance to the closest owned planet and their number of modules.]] It is a valid point against in terms of balancing the game. However, it is reasonable that a larger empire would be able to afford mor
Little off-topic to start: All this is reminding me of an episode of B5 where Earth tried to make the station pay for itself more and placed a module on the station that was a store. Had dolls of the senior officials and diplomats. Ended up getting spaced, I think Sheridan was upset with his doll... But anyways, I agree that there should be some form of modifier based on size of the map. Could always just scale the ^x.y based on the size. 1.7 for a tiny map and reduce as you go up.
Some of it is just luck based on % of anomaly types I'd say. The one that boosts the surveyor ship is space debris (looks like floating ship bits).
Also an option to perhaps reduce player score, remove that race from the game and keep playing... maybe...
I thought it applied to any trade routes that pass through that sector.
Hmm, I'd forgotten that AC allowed customization. That would be a nice touch if we could have it in GalCiv.
I certainly don't think it is outside of mankind's scope to look up at the stars and say, `that is yellow, that is red, that one is blue'...
Steven Erikson's series is very good fantasy. Immediate immersion though, read through it though. I read them once, read them again and love the series.
Personally, I've said it before but to reiterate. I find the tech side to be very bland. The descrips are great, but unlike Civ where I had a sense of accomplishment and a `COOL' feeling when I finished X wonder, I don't get that with Galciv. Oh, I completed a wonder. Good. It lacks the feeling of being able to go to the city screen and look at the wonder and say, neat. It lacks the video interlude that made it interesting (sure I skipped it every time after t
People keep mentioning ZOC, maybe it could be possible to apply it to planets and starbases as a range thing similar to national waters and international waters. So a planet might have a two square boundary around it (or larger) that cannot be entered/crossed/stopped within unless you are at war/trade/renting with them. Same for starbases. And definitely no tac combat. I like tactical combat, but turn based combat is hard to do well and real time allows the computer a great
Hmm, that gave me a thought. So, hypothetically if you obtain a lease with (for example) a minor civ and then wipe them out... does your lease still have to be paid out?
Ah, I see what you are saying. I wouldn't want it in the main screen, too much in the main UI. I could see putting it in the domestic menu somewhere instead though... but I don't pay much attention to the %s anyways. Too busy playing the game to worry about the numbers.
Definitely Space Empires IV. It's massive... in terms of everything. Ship options, techs, etc, etc... micromanagement... Not as fun I found as galciv though.
Yeah, it's painful. I post, but I can't follow the thread or remember where I posted so I can't continue thoughts... or read feedback on those thoughts.
In game menu screen lists the % at the bottom of that screen.
