I think the idea of linked phase inhibitors preventing hostile jumping could have merit. It would force players to attack a particular target (the inhibitor) before advancing, which would allow you to arrange your defenses usefully. Turret ranges are so short as to be relatively useless against a player, compared to the AI which will stupidly fly into them. Basically you could do to the player what is already the optimal strategy against the AI.
