Makes me smile that patent lawyers might be reviewing this case for decades to come here in the US, and that our legal system actually stopped this round of patent trolls.
It is trademark trolling, same kind of harassment as a patent troll, just brand names and graphics rather than technology (patents).

Thanks for sharing, Blair; this was a really interesting read. It is a sad statement on the litigiousness of our society that after picking one of the most unique and non-derivative names possible for your intellectual property, a trademark troll still figured out a way to attack you. If companies are allowed to trademark the usage of common words and regular expressions in a language, before long it will become impossible for anyone to communicate. I'm glad you we

Because later they will be difficult to contest, and your built up systems can't make up for the lack of numbers.
If you have the DLC for rebellion, there are tall empires. As pointed out, the way you fight the AI is very different from the way you will fight players. Against the AI you find a frontline chokepoint and fortify it with a starbase, and smash enemy fleets when they try to overrun the defenses. You then advance system by system fortifying as you go. You can kill vastly superior AI forces in this manner. To prepare for playing against players, try to beat a hard AI on a smallish (but not tiny) map without building a

Two tests in that archive show that 64 Cobalts perform on par with 80 Disciples (the Orky beats them with a similar amount of damage sustained, using the 180s maneuver); these two are equivalent fleet supplies. Maybe if you throw in capital ships there's a difference because of varying abilities etc., but pure LF fleets turn out to perform as their theoretical value indicates (1 Cobalt = 1.25 Disciples).
<p

It is interesting that I'm #10 and I almost don't play anymore. I've played less than 10 games online this year, and as some can attest, I am not in practice.

Those are interesting tests you've run; they are handy benchmarks. But one of the biggest dangers of Orkies is how upgrades and reinforcements make the fight harder while you are in the middle of it. The deadliest Orky is not the most upgraded one, but the one you barely have enough ships to kill.

It can't even de-culture a planet all the way, even with 2-3 simultaneous shots. Unlike, say, using mines, although I hear the AI got better at dealing with those. I guess I should restrict myself to linear paths with the scouts, because that's all the AI can do with his or can deal with... Or add/mod a scout probe research to all factions...
</p

Game companies do diversify.....remember when the king of RTS strategy games, Blizzard, decided to bet their whole company on an MMO? The Sins guys decided to make a MOBA. They are not necessarily expecting the same audience, but they branded it with the Sins name so we know they are involved. I think they may be a bit late to the MOBA party, but time will tell. They have done quite a bit with Sins from a strategy perspective. They probably don't want to b

The reason the colony caps all make my list is not because they are better than other caps, but because they offer the most strategic flexibility at the start of the game making them the best "safe" option. Being able to rapidly colonize, or colonize a contested system is invaluable at the start of the game. They are also all very useful ships besides their colonization ability. The one exception is the Marza, which offers a huge advantage to an offensive style tactical play
