Would love to see espionage get fleshed out some more. I expect that developers as a general rule don't like saying "do X like this game", but Civ V did an excellent job with spy games and counters in my opinion. I remember reading the post you linked and I do agree with the changes you suggest, which are very extensive to me. I just don't know how much effort it would be to add all of that which is why I just suggested the counterspy. One more that I thought of, and it has been menti

I have the same issue, all of my carrier fighters in game use laser weapons, even with assault fighter modules installed. Computer carrier fighters will use missiles, which means it is an uphill battle in the late game. I do get the 3rd fighter for each module at least. I also have a plethora of expansions and subscribed workshop content, which I imagine would make isolating the problem difficult. I guess it hasn't bothered me enough to really dig into the issue. Also Windows 10, but I have n

This is a fantastic thread, and I agree with a great many of the suggestions. I would like to add a few that have been on my mind: Please, for the love of all that you find holy (whatever that may be), allow us to choose the defense type for core ships. I love the models that I downloaded from the Workshop and I would like to see them more, but they are rarely the type of ship that I need. As far as I know, the only way to choose is to research up to the next level for whatever you

[quote who="NOCROMAN" reply="10" id="3762628"] Fact of the matter is that Air master did not create those ships. Air master used the parts supplied by the games Galactic 1,2,and three. none of the parts of those ships which are copyrighted belonged to him/her. They belong to the game producer and he would be in violation of U.S. law for claiming the collection of game supplied parts as his own design. [e digicons]k1[/e] The spacing between systems is not the issue I thought it would be, however the planet spawns seem to be back to "almost everything is dead within 50 tiles of your home system" even on Abundant settings which I find to be not fun. I took a look at the mapsetupdefs file, and it does look different than I remember, makes me wonder how I am supposed to tweak it now.

I would like the ability to dynamically up the difficulty. Sure some people would start on Easy or Normal just to avoid the starting rush of 18+ move colony ships from the Godlike AI bonuses, but that's how some people would want to play. Alternatively, giving the AI more freedom to combine in alliances or joining together earlier to defeat the player once their power curve turns vertical would make the game more challenging, I think. As far as leveling up your custom race, I

Endgame engines use a ton of promethium (6 per, iirc). Advanced sensors use Thulium as well, although I imagine the argument against them is that you don't need them to defeat AI ships either. I'm one of those people who likes to get to the top of the tech tree though, so I usually am scraping the barrel for those 2 resources.

I have noticed that the Precursor Fabricator only seems to work with other versions of itself (B/P/M) and the Death Furnace, which makes sense as few improvements are specifically marked as Social Construction. The M version should probably be changed to a Ship Construction improvement since it boosts Military manufacturing, in my opinion.

How long is a while? 10 minutes seemed excessive to me, even with ship sets and all. My computer is pretty good even if it's not top of the line anymore, and my internet connection is solid as well. I do know ending a task can have consequences, I rarely use it for that reason.

OK, so it seems my issue is related to syncing items to the Steam workshop. I just went to the workshop in-game and looked for new civs. I did not download any, but when I closed out the overlay it stayed on Syncing Workshop Items for over 10 minutes. After using task manager to end the process, my civ came up as unknown ship style again. Since I am more used to getting items while in the Steam program and not while GalCiv is running I can make sure not to do that again, but any tips on what

+1 for command line option, FWIW. Any progress on the Unknown Ship Style error from this thread? https://forums.galciv3.com/489456/page/1/#3717320 At this point I'm almost resigned towards rebuilding the ship set anyway, just hoping the save file was able to point you guys towards a cause for it to prevent it from happening more. Or even just limit the "damage" to the invalid ship itself and not the whole set.

I only ever use my one custom civ, because I like the way it is set up in regards to abilities and flavor text and ship designs etc. I've spent many hours tweaking the look and feel of it because that is my "portal" through which I put myself in that mini universe. Whereas some folks get enjoyment from using different races and strategies to win based on the setup of the game, I prefer to use my one race and a limited strategy tree to win in the widest variety of situations possible. I recogn

Nothing? Guess I'll hold off on playing until I feel like putting Humpty Dumpty's ship list back together again. I tried sending in a ticket with the civ in question, the error log, and my computer specs but I got a message in return saying there was only email support for certain items and my issue almost certainly is not one of them. I was hoping for more on the forums, even if it was a "we're working on this" or "no, you have to rebuild it". I've searched the other threads so I know this i

If you find the most recent posts in the same manner I do (which is what I think lyssailcor is talking about), then you click on forums and then general. Once I saw the previous post I noticed that if I instead click recent posts in the top left it gives a different listing, presumably pulling from the pinned topics as well as the standard posts. Not sure of the reasoning for the distinction, but I am not a website person.

3.03 was moved to the pinned section of the support board. Not sure about the Peacekeepers, sorry. I have them basically disabled in my games.

Good morning, A couple of weeks ago, around the time 3.02 came about as an opt-in, my custom civ began getting the Incompatible Faction Detected - Unknown Ship Style error message. This is still happening today, so whatever caused it has not been reversed for 3.03. I looked in the debug file after another unsuccessful load of my faction and there was a string showing that one of the ships (a freighter type) had failed to validate. I have tried re-validating files many times, usually i

This is sort of a response combining 2 threads, the validating of files and the ship set error message. So today my one custom civ's shipset broke. Seemingly out of nowhere. I am getting the "Unknown Ship Style" message at startup. The only thing that changed between successfully starting a game (with the error showing for other civs, but ones that I do not care as much about because I only use this one civ I made for myself) and getting the error was downloading more civs from the wo

Depending on how you want to play, there is another, simpler path that probably won't help you figure out early game strats much, but it will give you time to adjust. The best war/invasion defense is hard vacuum, meaning that if they cannot reach you (or take a very long time to reach you), then you can build up defenses before they get there as a reactive method instead of a preemptive tactic that waters down your tech/morale/wealth progress. I tend to play in the larger map range wi

As my usual game type is Excessive/Ludicrous maps with about half the recommended number of players (I like to have space to grow initially), I went into the GovernmentDefs XML file and tripled the given max colony rates. For my games it still gives me some impetus to improve my government, but it is not so overly restrictive that I can't do anything expansion-wise for X turns until I get a new government tech. I realize that not everyone is confident enough to mess with the XML however, so I
