Kryo, I bought and installed the new expansion... since I had hardly touched the old game, it will all be new to me (did play GalCiv I quite a bit though), but before get two weeks into a game and find that it crashes out all the time or something like that and have to restart it, I am wondering... Will the huge patch that downloads via Impulse for the orignal game fix this problem? Or do I need to uninstall and reinstall the whole thing via Impulse?
The Beastmaster
Dunno... I have only played Galciv I on XP.
I haven't played this game in 10 months, but it is a fun game. What aspects of "possibilities" are you asking about? The A.I. in this game is very good, by the way, compared to pretty much all turn based games.
Wow, I was about to order TA, But after reading this, and the fact that I have a store bought-installed Gold version installed as well, I really have to wonder.
Just some thoughts... Did you alter the game in any way? Have you run a virus scan with recent software to see if it's not the game itself, but something else that might be wrong with the CPU? Can you back up your CPU using an old system restore? (depending upon which version of Windows you have) So many possible things that could be going on, and those are just a few ideas.
I don't know about the others, but my computer is an older XP CPU. Athlon 1800, maximum Ram that the motherboard can handle is 1.5 GB, and as I recall, GC2 wanted 2 to 4 GB of RAM just for the swap file, as well as a dual core processor to get the most out of the A.I. routines.
dunno... $9.99 at Target, is where I got my Ultimate Edition.
Potent3006... For Windows ME, XP and such (so I assume it's that way on Vista too) in your program files file, if you have your game there: C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCivUltimate\AltarianProphecy\Data\SaveGames I have the Galactic Civilizations (Ultimate Edition) so your file name might be slightly different. Hopefully though, this will help lead you to your savegames file location, as it is likely that your savegames file is in a data file somewhere in your
Galactic Civilizations (Ultimate Edition) is version 1.52 bought at Target for $9.99 No idea if there is downloadable, etc, compatible linux version.
Hmm.. good question. Never even thought of that or looked into it. I'm curious, just for you, or for the major A.I. races as well? There is a huge money difference between the major A.I.s and the minors when you start, and it is there for a fairly good reason, but giving the A.I. a lot more money could really curtail the ability of bleeding the A.I. dry of it's research ability via trades for cash with it. (good or bad, depending upon if you want a good chance of winning the gam
Thanks, yeah I see it now (was looking in the documentation for this info and not finding it anywhere) I usually use Mini Soldiers... very cost prohibitive by comparison to other tactics. esssh

I think more info is needed damian, does your system meet the games requirements? What version are you playing with? Does this happen to any other of your games? Drivers, direct X version, etc. etc.
Does anyone have a reference to what the costs are to invading a planet are? I can't find it in any of the instructions, or anywhere else, and wonder why the biggest deterence to invading other worlds in this game isn't the defenses of the enemy A.I., but it comes from the costs of 2,500 to 4,000 b.c. or more (money) per star system taken over. Does it cost less if you raze the planet before you take it over, or more? etc.
Not sure here, but why would you need to patch the "ultimate edition" ? The Ultimate Edition comes with the Altarian Prophecy Expansion in it. [Message Edited]
In games where the anomilies glitch, where they disappear from loading a save (or the game autosaves) and all anomilies Poof! at the same time, do they EVER come back and start reoccuring? Or is it time to just start a new game when it happens in the first year of your game. It's been decades, playing on a small map and they have not shown up again... all A.I. Survey ships sit idle and I see all the universe and none reappear. Too bad this bug was never fixed.
Yes, I'm trying to determine what size page file size I should be using for the inital ... and what size paging file size to use for the Maximum for my computer, as I'm adding new RAM to my CPU. Had 512 RAM with 2 256 Dimms in the first 2 slots, and used 1024 for inital and 1536 for maximum, which made the CPU very stable for all types of games, including MMORPGs. Odd cuz that was obviously not the 1.5 times ruling-recommended. The CPU can only handle 3 512's , and I'm
No one knows where this went to??
A couple weeks ago, before the patch came out, Stardock listed an excellent listing of how to set up the Swap Page File Size, and what they recommended for people to use until the new patch came out. After the patch, this info seems to have disappeared, or am I just blind?? Can anyone please tell me where this information is at? Or if it is deleted from the Website, ... Stardock, can you please repost it, or reconnect it in some way to this post??
Does the full version require you to install their windows blinds stuff (programs and windows oddities... lack of better words) and such ?
I'm curious then... why list 512 MB RAM as recomended? Is the game going to be eventually runnable at 512 MB RAM with all bells and whistles? To anyone wondering, this isn't a flame... I want this game to work and look forward to the problem being resolved, fixed, helped, etc.
Thanks Ignuss ... that's exactly the kind of info that I needed to know.
I'm curious now... Does anyone know if there are any problems with GC2 and Win XP SP1 ? Or is XP SP2 required?
