Ouch, I like to think I still have a chance to break my 2nd place curse (I came in second on the Alienware contest also).
HAH! What I meant was it'll certainly be down to the two of you again, although the order may certainly change.

That's very cool, thanks so much Baron!!
Recount! [e digicons][/e] Kidding, of course. Congrats, again, to the winners! It's a run-away, and there's no reason to assume the Best Overall will be any different. Oh, and Zoomba - could I at least get my handle spelled correctly in the runner-up mention? Not a big deal but I'd hate to brag about coming in fourth and having someone dispute this claim. Congrats, guys! It was hard divvying up the points in that category. Enjoy your prizes! [e digicons]5*[/e] [e digicons]\o/[/e]
You can view a 2.2mb 6 second preview of my entry, Brahmand, at the following address: http://www.hillegass.net/files/preview.avi Please note, the small size prevents you from seeing all the fine details, including the starfield in the background. And it doesn't loop properly since it's only 10% of the animation sequence, but it'll give you an idea. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
Bad form to reply to oneself, I know, but the dream was finally accepted! Hooray! Now if only it would get some downloads. [e digicons]B)[/e]
Well, despite the upload form allowing a .mpeg file, it was rejected. I was afraid that might happen since the rules specify .dream format. (Why anything else is offered in the upload window is puzzling, though). So I will try uploading a .dream one last time. I've reencoded the source with a lower bitrate so hopefully that'll resolve the issue. Carguy1 - I appreciate the offer although I don't see how it'd help. Even if it works for you, whoever is tes
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that's what I'm doing already. I use a slightly different resolution but that shouldn't matter. It's an MPEG-2 file encoded by TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress using MP@HL . In fact, I downloaded the file myself to see if the .dream was corrupt since I can see the entry in my own failed submissions. The downloaded file plays perfectly on my machine. I really don't see how I can troubleshoot the issue.
I received notice that my Dream was not accepted because the file contained no playable video. I'm not sure how to resolve the issue since the file plays perfectly for me. I used standard mpeg-2 settings and the file is under 135mb. Any suggestions from the community? The raw .mpg file plays on all the machines I have access to so I'm at a loss. -Brian
Actually, there were a couple items that seem to have disappeared. As you say, TC, perhaps they're offline while they are being updated. I saw a nice looking water dream the other day which is now gone.
I decided to try Icon Packager and installed the shareware version (2.50e). Immediately I noticed that the text for my menu bar looks odd in some windows. There's an outline around the words on the menu bar that wasn't there before. I've included a screenshot of the issue. This really wasn't an issue until I installed Icon Developer. I can't see some of the text within the window (which is also in the screenshot). I've played with
I didn't submit it, but I just had a loss that scored 499 (or was it 599?). That was easily the highest score on a loss I've ever seen. I had increased the difficulty and was playing a large map. I held my own for a while, but started falling behind when the opposition got Dreads. It was only a matter of time... :) I eventually quit by giving everything I owned to the one AI that wasn't beating on me. I realize it might be hard to code, but I'd love to see the game continue
I was extremely sick the first year they ran the Thanksgiving Day marathon. My wife and daughter were at the family's house almost all day, and I laid in bed watching Joel and the bots. It was glorious! For those who watched from the beginning, I don't think there's any doubt that we'd prefer Joel. Mike was fine as of season 6, but you always have a special place in your heart for the pioneer. I'd pick Servo for the bots, but Trace had a wider range of talent compared to Kev
Yes, actually it was part of a fleet. It was working normally (all ships in the fleet moving one square at a time) until I saved and reloaded. I'm not a fan of cheesy exploits, so I'll separate the TS from the fleet next time I go on a star killing rampage. :D ~SDC~
I built a Terror Star in a large galaxy and was well on my way to a culture, military, or tech victory (I could take my pick). I decided to build a terror star with full culture influences and culture bomb the last race into submission. I saved the game and exited... after re-loading the game, the Terror Star has a movement speed of at least 10 instead of just 1. I zipped around the galaxy and smoked 'em. I think this save game would be a perfect example of the end game bogging down
