Actually, I think they should remain unaligned. Just one of these mega-players joining any one empire could seriously disrupt the entire empire ranking. What's to stop these players all joining one empire? Nothing.

It prevents the civilization that you are embargoing from doing any trade with you, and vice versa (I think). In the most current beta, the "Trade Embargo" button is located in the Foreign Relations screen, to the right of the espionage/destablization bars, and is where "Break Alliance" would be if you had an alliance with one of the AIs. I would really like to see AI implementation of the embargo feature; while it could be crippling used against the human player, it could also be very useful

Ah, missed that. Are you referring to the Venge? They appeared in one of my games but the Arceans conquered them before they could do anything. And it is the Dread Lords that high espionage defeats. [Message Edited]

The Space Zoo is not an event, rather it is a United Planets issue. Events refer to the morality decisions that you are forced to make when they pop up randomly throughout the game. On another note, the Space Sharks will not escape if you build up a large enough fleet in the orbit of the planet that the Zoo is on.

It's interesting to find that many of us have the same tastes in fiction and literature. When I was fifteen, an older cousin of mine was crazy about Sandman, just like he was crazy about every other type of comic. Reading the Sandman books were great fun: I still find myself tickled by Gaiman's Cain and Abel. Abel, the bumbling, simple, good guy, and his brother Cain, the brilliant, insane, whose sometimes psychopathic rages result in him killing his brother, albeit temporarily. Zela

Question: I haven't played on anything above Tough yet, but does the AI know how to sell/disband ships if its economy gets wrecked from, say, selling it loads of techs that it can't afford? Current game I have going has the Drengins 25k in debt, after I culture bombed them to giving me all their planets save one, and they already had the largest military presence in the game. Just wondering.

Thanks, Ray! Sorry, I should have specified earlier. Neverwhere is also by Neil Gaiman. The entire mythos of the book deals with London's Rail underground: in the undergrounds of the world's cities, history, myth and legend have combined to form..err..."unique" getaways.

Drop Bear/Ray: I read Neverwhere on a whim when my brother suggested it; I took it with me to Vermont for a ski trip. While my friends and I were snowed in our hotel, they got drunk. Me? I read Neverwhere and had a blast. One of the best reads I had had in a while, and THOSE are few and far between. My brother still hasn't finished American Gods, so I haven't been able to read it yet. Other superb reads I've had in the past few years have been Peter F. Hamilton's e

Ray- Really? I would be most grateful to join the Fellowship. I have been wanting to join an Empire but have been conflicted with choices. As for Elemental: It sounds great, I can't wait to see what Stardock will do to enhance the GalCiv engine for a fantasy setting. Since it would be purely land-based, I'm assuming that strategy would play an even greater role than is already present in GalCiv. Nice to know I'm not the only person who has been tossing this ide

It would be something else if the game map could be edited (through heavy modding) to change the "space background" to a more land-based theme..say, forests and plains. Although it would probably be too time-intensive.

I still wouldn't mind having hyperlinked social projects on the Guv's screen. Another gripe I have with the new beta is akin to what Popup Target said. Relatively early past 2200 (in that area), I get massive gameplay slowdown even on small maps...something I have not seen in previous versions. This continues until I reboot. I've found myself using Death Knights quite a bit in the early-mid game, to great success. Quite useful IMO for certain situations. Suppose

Yesterday I got 65 corvettes, only in late game when I had slipped up and let the Drengins get the tech lead, and who were stomping me with Death Knights. It sure would help out a bit if the corvettes were given stats that were improved relevant to the time lapsed spent playing the game.
