There seems to be an AI weakness in not capturing asteroid resources. The Explore autocast trumps the Take Asteroid autocast. I'm playing a large game right now and my scouts are seizing astroids everywhere. The AI and Pirates seem to ignore them to attack Planets. So I'm raking in metals and crystals from all over without any risk.
