Duriel got patched a long time ago so he spawns further back AND doesn't do much damage with his chargeattack anymore. As Sorceress you Static Field him. In Hell difficulty you Static with your Merc blocking. Then you walk around with Blaze (practice in Normal first!) or just teleport while using your strongest spell. I won on Hell with my MeteOrb.
I wasn't aware of the patch. I don't think I remember ever having a Merc, either--is that new to LoD

I gave to Compassion International. Although none of "my" kids are in Haiti, Compassion's offices in Haiti got ravaged by the earthquake, and they were trying to help kids before all this; let alone after.

This hit a little too close to home. Families having their houses collapsed on them w/ their family members inside. They frantically pick up their incapacitated family members and try to rush them to a hospital, but there's no way: they're too poor for a car, the roads are demolished and filled with other people in the same situation, and even if you got there you'd have to wait in line. No home, no money, all you can do is lay down your dying family member on the stre

Al Gore has always made himself the political arm of science...or the science arm of politics...not sure how you put it. To put it another way, lots of scientists are disgusted at politics, and/or just don't want to touch it with a 10-foot pole. They're just trying to find answers to the ways things work. Screw the whole thing with emotions, interpersonal relationships, power politics, navigating the bureaucracy, all that. I'm too busy trying to figure out
A game like basketball can have refs because the NCAA and NBA provide fairly clear, simple rules to govern action on the court.
How much basketball do you play? Calling fouls in basketball is an extremely fuzzy part of the game and it affects virtually everything you do. The analogy's actually pretty good, because most games of basketball are pickup. You call your own fouls. And pickup definitely has its share of lamers who will baby
However, a good moderator also has to be a member of the community.
I would argue the opposite: a good mod has to NOT be a participating member of the community. That's like a ref also being a player. The minute the mod participates, the discussion is colored, because you know if you alienate the mod, that mod becomes biased, and now you have to worry about that mod searching for loopholes to cite you for "infractions". And as a mod, even you kno

Unfortunately, a world war is probably exactly what it will take to stop the whole U.S.-Israel complex. We just got done invading two sovereign countries and installing puppet regimes. Right now the world war is a war of information and spin-control, but if it keeps going this way eventually countries are going to go to each other and say, "Look, if we are to put this to a stop, we're going to have to band together". And there's your world war. If you can w

I'm holding out for cheaper SSD. That's on my hot-list for techs I think will go up in tech and down in price very quickly. Right now we're at what, $200 for every 64 Gigs? Moore's law says it'll be $200 for 128 Gigs in 1 1/2 years. I think it'll beat Moore's Law.

I readily admit, our U.S. military has been misused, and I will gladly forfeit my right to vote because of the actions of my own country. Many men of honor may be in the U.S. military, but many honorable soldiers served in the Wehrmacht, too. It's an absolute tragedy that honorable men have been ordered to kill each other, and they did it. Of course, if I did have a right to vote, I would say the Canadian military is right-sized, and the U.S. should take their

How do you code a "heartbeat" in an RTS game, anyway? Any devs on? Do you put a wait() statement at the end of the MEL to throttle it to the desired speed? Are you able to subtract out the compute time of all the tasks you actually do that iteration of the MEL? e.g. if you want a 100ms heartbeat and it takes 10ms to process one iteration but 11ms another, can you sleep 90ms/89ms respectively, to keep it at a steady 100?

I've got a 9800GT myself, 1GB. Bought it just to play Supreme Commander. Then I played SupCom (it worked fine), and I didn't like it. :D Oh well...then I bought Sins, and didn't have to do anything. I always compromise with the screws on my HD's. I'll screw them in, but only tight enough so I could get out a pocket knife and unscrew it. I don't want to lose the screws. 'Cause that's where the screws belong: in the

Wii sports deserves it. The whole thing with using more of your body, simulating real strokes, the inertial detectors in the controllers--that's revolutionary. It's all about thinking outside the box, and the Wii is outside the box. Sins isn't.

I just pre-ordered and played my first game: 1v3 FFA, all on Normal. First impression: way too easy, and the added research drags the game out even longer than it already is. The AI's were all friends just by me researching the first two relational techs. Obviously I need to up the diff, and the AI is still in beta; but I wonder what it would be like if I was at 1X game speed actually fighting the whole time. It was just a real drag s

LOL we as gamers can't even agree we are all gamers. :) Funny thing about these "deep freeze" news stories is, they are talking about how we're getting our coldest temperatures since 1996, 1999, etc.. St. Louis has its first sub-zero temperature since 1999. I remember bicycling to school growing up in negative temperatures--in Missouri, in the daytime. We played outdoor hockey (well...more like broomball, it was minus the skates). I waited in
Also, if you have the researchable, artifacts can be free to look for.
Well, not "free". You pay for the research. I did the math in my head awhile back, and I think the break-even point is about 5 1/2 planets you have to double-explore for artificacts before you start making the research back. That's a little high. OTOH that time bonus from the research is interesting when stacked with Progen's colonize bonus (which is for a limited time

Compared to the Egg or Progen, I just don't see the value in Akkan. All 3 of Progen's abilities absolutely rock (its lvl 6 sucks, but...). Improving flak with Akkan is an awesome idea, but it just doesn't measure up to a lvl 3 shield restore or Malice. I will say this, though: the Egg lacks a good mass-bonus ability whose effect is fleet-wide, whereas Akkan can buff LRM+flak spam. The best it can hope for is indirect: it can knock out an enemy cap and
Conspiracy theorists will never admit they're wrong
LOL speaking of which, look at all the people who refuse to admit they're conspiracy theorists. I've got news for you: if you believe 19 Arabs simultaneously hijacked 3 commercial airlines with boxcutters and rammed themselves into buildings, YOU are a conspiracy theorist. Or maybe it was a lone suicide bomber that did it.
As for hardest boss I've ever played against in any type of game...I'd have to say the guy at the end of Quake 3 was harder than the guy at the end of Unreal Tournament, much to do with the fact there was nowhere to hide on the Q3 level!
Probably. I didn't play Quake, so I wouldn't know. Oh, what about that level in Halo 2 where the boss sends all his guards (brutes, snipers, & all) at you to execute you? At the top difficult

There's obviously no bosses in C&C3, but I thought the last level of Nod on Hard was a killer. I think you had 15 minutes to take out the mother ship? The GDI threw 2 crazy attacks against you before you even had a chance to knock that base out to the SE.
