very slow or freezing battle animations in Galactic Civilizations I Stardock Forums

Hi I just bought GC the other day, and even with the latest Detonators and the 1.03 patch, I have to keep battle animations turned off because they either play at somewhere around one frame every ten seconds, or it just plain hangs the program... I was hoping somebody knows what the problem is, because I'd really like to be able to have the animations on... ~SDC~
