If this is a separate universe from the original StarCon series then i don't see why any of the original aliens would be included, unless they have inter-dimensional capabilities (Arilou, Orz?).

When I first heard about this project I was excited, though somewhat tempered by Stardock's decision to not include any assets from SC1 or 2. When I heard F&P wanted to a do a direct sequel to SC2, I was elated. Here, after 25 years, we were going to get not one, but two StarCon games, both a soft reboot of sorts and a follow-up to SC2. Pretty sure the original ships aren't an option due to the licensing agreement.
Given what Frogboy said, it would be pretty easy to add new systems and alien races without impacting existing ones. I'm assuming a bit here, but think of it as expanding known space rather than dropping a new species into "known" space.

I got the founder pack but was wondering what comes in the $100 tier. Given the base game is only $35, that suggests almost twice the content of the main game will be added in the form of DLCs and expansions. I'm wondering if someone from Stardock can elaborate on what is mapped out. I'm tempted to get the "lifetime upgrade" option, but I want to make sure the price increase is justified. Thanks.
They say in the article that they don't own the rights to the story or characters, only the name Star Control, and that Paul Reiche III and Fred Ford still retain the rights. Paul and Fred also confirm it in the same article: The decision to go with a prequel rather than a sequel seems at first an odd choice, but it’s the result of the complexities of the Star Control franchise intellectual property.
