Well, this prediction seems to be off. It's now around 6 months after this post was started and there were more than 300 people playing when I was just online [e digicons][/e]

It has only been a week of playing after all. I will get Entrenchment, give that a week, then try out online. Only prob is how many other players are in my time zone, or close to it?? Will have to check.
I'm guessing you are in Sydney a

Check out the strategy section... there was a whole posting about carrier spamming and how to deal with it. If someone just spams carriers, it is quite easy to counter, actually. Basic assaults combined maybe with some carriers of your own will eat a carrier spammer alive.

I think it's been noted pretty well that caps are very important to this game. If you don't use them, you are hampering yourself immensely. To say that they "go down way too fast" means that you are probably putting them in harms way. They are very important and, hence, have big targets painted on them. They are like a general leading your army into battle... they can be quite devasting but are also vulnerable if not protected. If you keep losing your caps, tha

I have yet to see anyone even use them. I haven't used them except when I played against the AI, when I first got this game. They only do 20 or 23 planetary damage, have weak shields and armor, and are quite pricey. It seems like you would have to devote too much resources to buy enough to make them useful. Even then, they are too easy to kill. From what I have been reading, it seems like they had a pretty big nerf recently. I don't think making them expe

Yeah, I've noticed that playing with people around the world is no problem. Starting to meet people who play around my time zone, so it's a good start :-) The community, as a whole, seems to be pretty friendly, I have found.

Guess I just passed over the sticky without noticing it [e digicons]o_O[/e] However, my #2 I'm still curious about. I have heard this is "bugged" and that a human player can simply give his units new orders to bypass it.

The only thing that getting rid of stats will do is not cause people to smurf (which I feel is quite ridiculous anyways). People will still get angry when they lose and do things such as above. I think stats can be helpful when trying to balance teams. Because of smurfing, it's not always apparent who are the best players, especially when all I see are stats with more wins than losses. But, still, it can be helpful.

Alright, I have a few questions on capital ship abilities that I'm sure some of you can clear up. And I am getting all of my info from the Sins Reference Sheet, which is awesome, by the way. 1) The only ability I see listed as channeled is the Disintegration ability of the Desolator. However, I was under the impression that others were channeled as well, like the Marza's Missile Barrage (which is listed as actually doing 150 damage and it appears to be instantaneous).

They are useful to help you build your fleet exp and will encourage good defenses. On the whole, pirates are not over powered, they are not too distracting, just enough of a nuisance to keep you on your toes.
Yeah, I'll agree here. All else being e

Ok, I am taking these stats right from the Sins Reference Sheet, which is very helpful to look at if you don't already have it. And I'm guessing from some of the postings on here that many haven't... As you can see, basic assault are much faster than carriers (or any other ship for that matter). But, if you try to use your longe range ships or capitals to get them, you'll never catch up! Strikecraft, scouts, basic assaults, anti-strikecraft, and heavy assaults are th
Thanks for the info. I just want to clarify something, This post isn't as much about the Carrier Spam, but how to fight an opponent that takes his fleet and sets a path to fly circles around a planet. It seems like a flaw in the game, since you can’t catch his carriers and and the strike craft clears out the system. Not even a CAP ship has a chance.
&n

Alright, the first thing I noticed is that you have far far far too many resources! You should have spent those on units, upgrades, etc. long ago. Your economy should never go that high. If you don't have enough of one resource to continue upgrading and building, then buy that resource. Another note, you are not on the latest version of Sins. Now, as far as units go, I would recommend downloading the SoaSE unit chart so

Alright, haven't figured out how to do a basic function, can't find it in the manual or in the hotkeys... how do I select all of the same type of units around a planet? For example, how do I select all fighters, all lrms, etc.? I tried double clicking in the empire tree but that doesn't seem to work.

When I started playing this game, I had the same problem. I found that the AI doesn't seem to attack a planet if you have enough units on that planet... so if you have about the same or greater amount of "bars" compared to the AI's, they don't seem to attack. They also will mass near your planet before they attack and will scout you (either with scouts or frigates) before they do so. So, just keep on eye on your border colonies. Remember that the AI is also attacking
It's not quite so simple. I just had Carrier Spam used against me myself. I couldn't defeat it. I spammed 26 Defenders against his 54 Fighter Squadrons (supported by 1 Capital Ship) and I only managed to take out about 1/3 of his fighters before my defenders were overcome. Meanwhile I attacked his carriers with Illuminators but he just kited them around the planet until his fighters took them out. Defeating the carrier spam

Yeah, playing teams would be fine with me, too. I just wanted to know if this was the way that most people play FFA. Maybe, when playing an FFA, the rules need to be specified? And, yes, someone else pointed out that I could also play an FFA with set teams but I would prefer playing the way I stated... where temporary alliances and such are good to do. Basically, the game I played in was not a game at all... it was just everyone beat up on me, then when I pointed out
