I had the same problem last night, could only play for about 15 minutes. What I did that got me to play for a couple of hours without any problems was, I went to the Main DA file located C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar. The file is called GC2DarkAvatar.exe and right clicked on it and went into the properties, clicked on the compatibility tab and selected the box to run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (SP2). The debug.err file is created whenever you start a game and then removed if you exit the game normally. If the game crashes the file remains. The debug.err file is located in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2 folder.

Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of games lately have been rushed. It could be just a few and I have just had the luck of picking them to play but it seems that a lot of developers think it is OK to rush a game out and then try and fix it with patches and stuff. I myself would rather wait an extra month or whatever it takes and have a game that has been tested properly. Anyway, I do like the game but I have to agree that the controls can be a bit frustrating at times. Chris

You can edit the prefs.ini file to change the display settings. It is located: My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 Or you can rename the file and the game should create a new file with default settings.

I had problems with my Sound Blaster as well, update drivers didn't work for me so I went with disabling the card and enabling my on board sound which worked fine for me.

It sounds like your machine should be running this game fine. I do notice that you have the same sound card I did. Any chance you can disable the SB and enable your on board sound (if you have it). Just to eliminate it as a cause?

During the gamma testing, I had the same problem. I use to get a blue screen very briefly before it rebooted. Any chance you are getting a blue screen as well?

Delete the file sig.bin from C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2 and relaunch the game. It will ask for your e-mail and serial number again to reactivate. Let me know if that works.

Another common problems is video cards creating to much heat and overheating. I had an older PC where I had to take the side cover off in order to play games.
