Sorry for the lengthy post here, but it's quite frustrating to me that I can see and sympathize with both sides of this discussion. I have a great deal of respect for the honesty and integrity of both Brad and Brian, which I guess is why I keep pushing myself between them. Addressing Brian's comments above -- I think it would certainly be fair to say that he interpreted what Brad did and didn't say in a plausible way. But it would also be quite fair to say that it's not the only plausib

[/quote] I'd hate to further hijack this thread away from its original purpose, but I do think that this particular part of Brian's argument needs to be addressed a bit further. Clearly he got an impression -- which Brad/Frogboy has now stated was incorrect. I'd hate to see even one person get turne
I have to second Nand1's comments -- adding sliders allowing for customization of as many game parameters as possible would be a really welcome feature that adds replayability without requiring lots of new programming. In general, I like Gal Civ a lot (just bought it at retail a couple of weeks ago) but honestly I'm not sure that I'd pay $20 for an expansion pack. I'd love to be convinced, though! What would convince me would be changes that really provide for a different game
I completely agree that this is counterintuitive, but the game mechanics sort of demand it. There is no provision for splitting ownership of a solar system (and probably shouldn't be -- it would complicate things a lot!) So it would appear that the most logical thing to do would be to "average" morale in some fashion. But there are too many ways to crank out the cheese and abuse any kind of averaging system. For example, if all the game does is look at each planet's morale and take the
Are we talking about a sequel (i.e. a new game) or an expansion to the existing one? (I'm assuming a sequel for my response...) Personally, I don't feel a need for options 1 and 2, and I'm a bit worried that you might be feeling the need to go 3d and casting about for justifications/ways to use it. The existing 2d engine is just fine. If you really want a use for 3d, though, make the galaxy truly 3d, with stars in all directions instead of a flat plane. However, I'll bet that designing
