I believe (not done it) the Paradox Games (Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, Victoria) have an ability to convert your saves from the end of one to the start of another. There have been one or two RPGs that did so too. The AI problem in the Age of the Internet seems well suited for player contributions. - Either directly by players submitting strategies for inclusion (using a tool to make them relatively easy to convert) - OR indirectly b

UI: I really really really want to have my map point due North by default (gridlines up and down not at a 45 degree angle) COMBAT: I want control over how my units deploy. Putting my new familiar at the front is not funny COMBAT: whole-heartedly agree there should range penalties of some kind. The Beer&pretzel crowd mostly prefer RTS anyway ;-P DOCUMENTATION: All formulae/mechanics should be available to players. I shouldn't have to trawl the net to find the pl
I want the default view to point North not North-East (is it West?)! (should at least be an option) I want to choose my combat formations! (having my new frail familiar start in the front line and die before it acts is not amusing)
Is there a way to change the default map rotation? I see absolutely no advantages to the horrible default diagonal rotation but turning it to an orthogonal grid every time (every load and every battle) gets tedious very fast (especially since it only responds to my middle mouse button about 1 time in 10! -a fix for that would be welcome too). This absolutely dwarfs the times I rotate because I want a better view. I've been reminded that Ctrl+Cursors rotates rel
There are features I'd love to see again -cities that "can walk and chew gum"!! - Essence done right (and heroes with their own mana) - Dynasties are probably an expansion rather than a DLC from what people have been saying I'm not keen on the FE tech trees but not completely certain how I'd fix them either. Some of these could best be done as OPTIONS that you can choose to play with or without in any given game (dual-queue ci
Argh! if you're goign to lose my post at least leave it on my computer!! Elemental is a fine brand (FH only a subtitle) Really miss the dual build queues from EWOM (dynasties also nice) Heroes with their own mana is good too. (got dropped in EWOM can't remember FE from my brief play) Initiative was already too important in FE imo. Logarithmic system (if 20=2x10 then 100=2x90) seems the way to go (there's a computer t
I've come back to GAlCiv after a while of not playing it. I think I recall downloading an enhanced encyclopedia and setting it up but I'm not sure that I still have it or how to get at the information... I thought I could et at more information in-game with it. Would the official update have messed it up? The menue in windows when i put the CD in has Gal Encyclopedia as an option but the link does nothing. Am I making this up? Thanks Ed.
I'd definiely buy MoM2 if 1) I knew about it (i don't read this a lot) 2) It was sufficiently similar to MoM2 Note particularly the farce that is MoO3 -DO NOT put in any real-time fighting. Things that would be nice additions: -more xp levels -more planes -more spells -QUESTS (both for your empire and for your heroes individually) Be careful with the graphics -zooming is definitely good but the graphics don't have to be spectacular and do have
To deal with the Mass Drivers. All they need is a flag to say that you used Mass Drivers on the planet earlier -then if you get the planet later you get the penalty as well but in the meantime they can carry on without it. Perhaps if the planet changes to another empire in between it loses the flag. ~SDC~
Did all the peole who didn't get break-outs keep ships in orbit? How many? Did all the people who did have break outs leave their planets undefended? (why waste money supporting ships in orbit when teh enemy is on the other side of the galaxy, right? ~SDC~
I would expect it to save the game when you quit and restore that. Many games do save the game when you close them and GalCiv certainly takes long enough to close (on my machine anyway). Ionly made this mistake once though. ~SDC~
Looks good to me :) Could you fix the scoring on fewer opponents? The game seems to have the ridiculous idea that fewer (strong) opponents are easier to beat! One big empire is MUCH worse than two equal ones. Is there any prospect of being able to choose the motion before the UP meeting (2/3 options to choose from woul dmake a great difference)? At the moment there is a good chance that you won't even care about having influence at that point so trading it all away is often a g
This last post kinda makes the point that I think is your big problem. YOU DO NOT NEED MORE PRODUCTION POINTS. What you want it to be able to have a few planets really pumping out the production (like your capital) while everything else pootles along with enough production to build constructors/transporters and the odd other thing. The problem you described wasn't a lack of production capacity just a lack of money -if your spending is below 100%, you are not using all your production c
Well I had killed most of my enemies and controlled all the sectors but it still wouldn't acknowledge that i had the 90% for the cultural vicotry -does it go by total influence accumulated? At that point I decided to convert as many planets as possible.
You could try pumping up the minors (giving them all the tech for free) and setting them on your opponent while getting in their way.. no idea if it would work -probably the minors would just get wiped out.
I'm another newbie ;-) The one problem on that list that I see as important is that people don't submit their losses. While we all like to compete (well most of us anyway), the main purpose of the metaverse is to help Stardock improve the AI. A lot of value for this comes from winning strategies (beatable strategies are easy to come up with) but I'm sure there is a lot to learn from lost games too -that's how the winning games come about, but the lesson may be a lot clearer in the losin
Another quick on the same lines (I've found some wonders and goods noe :-). When I upgrade my Starbases it offers me a 'mining' option. Am I right in thinking that that is an improvement on my Empire-wide bonus for the resource? I have a lot of bases in the middle of nowhere (tight clusters and the Drengin got stuck in the corner ;) so that matters quite a bit.
Someone said something on one of the other threads about scoring. Do Good or Evil get higher scores?
Thanks muchly. Am I right in thinking that 'star influence' affects all the plannets around that star (thus having more planets on one star lets you get all those bonuses more times cummulatively or don't they stack?)? I take it there is no other way than mining resources to gein empi-re wide bonuses? (I haven't got to know the technology tree yet -is there something there?) ~SDC~
I like the tactical display but there are a lot of things it doesn't show -most importantly scnner ranges and anomalies. PLEASE CAN WE HAVE ANOMALIES VIEWABLE ON THE MINIMAP? (and preferably the option of removing the resources which look like stars in a big enough galaxy) I'd still rather be able to get a bit further away from the main view -Eyes's of the Universe is great but having to stop every move or two to see what I haveuncovered is a nuisance. I understand tha
Sorry if this is double posted -the first one doesn't appear to have come up. How do you tell whether a bonus is for your whole empire or just a sector/planet/starbase? I'm thinking particularly of the influence ones on starbases. ~SDC~
WAaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy off topic If people decide to starve themselves to death -how does that make the PM a criminal? I won't compare it to anything the US has been involved in. ;p
This is probably a silly question but I've only just got the (full) game and I'm still downloading the update so not a lot else for me to do ;) How do you distinguish between an influence bonus that increases the influence of one planet/starbase/sector as opposed to one that increase the influence of EVERY planet/starbase/sector you control? It doesn't seem very clear to me in the documentation I have read. In particular it looks to me like building multiple starbases is better
Any chance of somehing correlating size with difficulty? Ie. are the maso games on smaller maps? ~SDC~
Perhaps they want your planets so they can surround their (tougher) enemies. ~SDC~
