Well, you DO have to realize that they were trying to make an expansion for a game that has been out for a few years already, so things may have changed rather dramatically. Additionally, I should point out that for the new items, weapons and ships, they needed to create a whole range of new assets, either 3d pre-rendered or 2d-drawn, and that can take quite a bit of time. One big quality-of-life improvement I can name is a very big one, especially considering where the game is being so

Well, having owned and played both SR2 and the expansion, I can give you some idea of what's been added to the game: -5 new text quests of varying difficulties -Multiple new RTS battle maps, some with huge-sized "boss" enemies -The ability to play RTS battles and text quests outside of the main game! -New unique ships for the true high-end player, available at certain stations -New items and improvements for your ships -Numerous quality-of-life improvements
Supreme Civilizations of a Solar Empire (with snathi)!!!!Oh yes.
That could actually be a very, very interesting prospect in a few years... Combine the massive unit totals and vast battles of Supreme Commander, the incredible strategy, roleplaying and deep combat of Sins of a Solar Empire, and the unit customization, technological tree, tactical and strategic focus, diplomatic options and so on of Galactic Civilizations II and beyond, and you'd get something that
Wow, a lot of neat fixes and new toys to play with! I definitely need to go snag this... What struck me, though, was the new "Offensive Meditation" and "Defensive Meditation." Curious names for those - does that mean that Bastila is on the flagship? *cackle* (Sorry, KOTOR reference...)
Hmmm...well, the beta has been pretty fun so far, though I haven't played a REALLY long time yet. However, I thought it might be a good idea to mention a small bug I found...this bug concerns the Turn Report you receive at the beginning of each new turn, reporting on any new occurrences, like the completion of buildings. Of particular note in this case is when you complete a Starport. Now normally, in Dark Avatar or Dread Lords, when you choose "Go To Planet" in the options and go to th
And to think all of this is for a Beta! Amazing! XD Of course, some betas ALWAYS get a lot of attention, especially the way Stardock does their betas... I look forward to trying out these new different tech trees!
Either that or BoogieBac lives remarkably close to the office...either way, respect man!
*watches as the Drengin invade...by lobbing pumpkins from orbit* Nyeeheehee. XD I look forward to when the beta appears...actually, I wouldn't normally be up THIS early on a Tuesday, but I couldn't sleep, so I decided to get up early...
Heh, interesting - so it sounds like the AI would certainly be able to cope with the player having this unusual tech tree idea I've proposed (although certainly it has been proposed before, if perhaps in not so much detail). My main concerns would probably be two-fold... First, making sure that the AI who uses the tech tree are able to use the improvements in that tech tree to maximum effect, which could be tricky if you have a tech tree that is radically different depending on ethical
NOOOOO! HAVE MERCY ON US FROJESUS!!! Wait a minute...that sounds like Jesus wearing a 'fro. Uhm... HAVE MERCY ON US LORD BRAD WARDELL! Hmmm, better, but still sounds a bit forced, somehow...gonna need to fix that...
You know, it occurs to me that this new customizable race-specific tech tree stuff could be used in a rather more...epic way. What am I talking about? Well, I think that with this new feature, it is now entirely possible to create a race with, in essence, multiple tech trees within its main tech tree...more specifically, a tech tree that is radically different depending on the race's ethical choice. To illustrate this, let's consider a hypothetical race - I'll use my Confederac
I don't mind the late date for the beta...heh, I wound up going for the beta for ToTA because, ironically, I wanted to try the beta for Sins of a Solar Empire through TotalGaming.net, only to discover that the ONLY payment plan for the site involves buying a flat $70 fee...a pretty steep price to pay, but the shock is lessened when you consider I could get three things for it - so I preordered Sins, I preordered ToTA, and with the remainder I bought Mr. Robot for something to do during waits. XD
Okay, now I have a new reason to preorder. XD *ahem* But what I wonder is if when you make a new custom race, you'll get options to modify the custom race tech tree from within the game...or if the custom race will only be using the generic tech tree unless you modify the tech tree outside of the game by tweaking the .xml? Either way, this looks like it ought to be rather fun! And it seems fitting that the Terran Alliance and the Drengin get their new tech trees first - that way, we als
As far as graphics go, the graphics for this game are pretty, er, pretty already. What I'd like would be for that evil robot render to get fixed...that three-armed, evil robot newscaster with an odd clipping... Oh well, that can wait. *chuckle* Good to hear about TA through the previews!
No open beta? That's a pity, that'd have been a big inducement for me to pre-order the game - I liked the fact that those who preordered Dark Avatar got a chance to play the beta version before the full release. But, I can understand the reasons behind not having an open beta too. Still, two months before we get that sweet Twilight of the Arnor goodness? I'm going to have a hard time waiting! x_x Must...not...go...crazy...
Heh, I'm in an even tougher bind to try and get there...couldn't afford it, back in college, pretty far away from me, and to top it off a grandparent died a month ago and so everyone's been in a right furor...
If you ask me, something a little bit more problematic is a render problem with the evil three-armed robot news presenter in the "New Technology Researched" screen...namely, it appears that his chest plate is not moving properly with the rest of his body...in fact, they don't move from the same spot at all. (Looks like someone forgot to add parented motion to the chest parts!) This graphical error has occurred in Dread Lords and Dark Avatar, but I expect it might be a bit problematic to fix, esp
So far, I have really enjoyed the extra detail that this mod has given - even the planets with unmodified surfaces benefit immensely from the new atmosphere and cloud effects! Truly, the entire galaxy has been made to look its best!
Well, not a DIRECT benefit, anyway - I could see one invading that kind of world not so much to gain new planets for production or what not, but more to deprive other players of those worlds. It's basically just a matter of figuring out what options are most cost-effective and militarily effective.
Heh, good use of the filters Zoomba! XD As for the two races that WON'T bite the galactic dust...hell if I know. The sandbox game has all of the same races as before (with the curious change from Altarian Republic to Altarian Resistance - an indicator of the campaign I assume?), so there's no telling what sorts of weirdness the Stardock guys have planned for us! And me? I'll just be learning 3ds Max and Maya (if the darn thing would run...darn video card/software incompatibilit
So those who pre-ordered the moment they found out Dark Avatar was in the works get them first and so on down the line? Heh, nice call in a way, it is pretty easy on the bandwidth. Of course, the folks who ordered THAT early also got into the beta, so for them it'd be more of an upgrade than a full download. I assume those just upgrading would strain the bandwidth less than those downloading full up? Or is the bandwidth usage roughly equal for both of them?
Well, Chris Taylor was the mind behind Total Annihilation (or at least one of them, another being Clayton Kauzleric). He also later worked on the Dungeon Siege games under the label "Gas Powered Games." Supreme Commander is his attempt at creating, essentially, TA 2. I wonder if he decided to go with three races because of the fact that so many RTS games have upped the ante with three or more races - Starcraft came with three, as did Warcraft III, and of course the Warhammer 40K: Dawn o
Heh, I was a BIG TA fan - TA was a real fun game to play, so many units to field! (I usually liked playing it with a unit limit raise of some sort, to like 500 or 1000 units...) For a time I even wrote TA fiction under the alias "Mr. Armageddon." Krogoths were nasty huh? Just walking fortresses of death essentially. XD
What about the Counter-Espionage Center? You tried putting that on your homeworld?
Never actually considered the percentages to use for this sort of thing, actually. *chuckle*
