So I am back to doing work on SoaSE with cider build 1770. I have played a whole game, 4 hours, without a single crash using Cider. I am using the latest 1.9 beta line under OS X 10.5.5 with ok results. I have gotten most of the required modifications done, but still have issues with the text being gyberish symbols. As has been pointed out before SoaSE uses pretty much its own fonts for everything with the exception of a few buttons. I think these are images, but I am not sure.

I am not saying they must port it to the Mac. I am simply seeing how far the community tools of the WINE derivatives are working now a-days. I don't expect Stardock or anyone to support this, but technologies based on WINE derivatives like Cider are now becoming real ways to implement single system games without the normal loss through virtual machines or traditional emulation. Already I can run many of my favorite games through Wine derivatives (TF2, Quake Wars, C&C 3, Oblivion, and now SoaSE)

I think its a system side font issue or a font rendering issue. Its just gibberish and has nothing to do with the application's fonts per say. Its quite sad because if it just wasn't for the font issue Sins would be 100% playable out of the box using the cider translation layer. It even seems more stable under cider then under a native windows environment. Now I have checked all eyecandy, different resolutions, and played a game for a few hours (actually playing two since I need to have ano

I am playing with Sins of a Solar Empire on cider under OS X. I am at the main menu right now and there is some text corruption. Probably a few fonts and things missing. I will let you know if I ever get it working. Update1: yep the fonts don't appear to be loaded in. I have played a bit, but am unable to check different resolutions and how high of eye candy cider will take. So the 3D engine appears to be working well, it seems quite responsive (on a early 08' mac pro) and I can use all of t

Weight is variable in space when acted upon by a gravitational force. Mass, however, is constant. Remember basic physics, objects in motion tend to stay in motion until acted upon by a force... The more mass something has the more energy that force needs to have to alter the motion of the object. You might not have gravity and resistance from air acting upon the ship, but the effects of mass and propulsion still exist.

Still some crashes and mini-dumps. At least now I can get as far as I normally do before it takes its own life. Never been able to play through 7 deadly sins, the game always crashes after I conquer a cluster with huge galaxy size set. On the plus side I absolutely love the harder pirates. Feels like a challenge now instead of a speed bump I fly over sending in two battle fleets (each battle fleet is about 80 ships with 5 capital ships).
