Looking for strategy tips from better players than I. How do you guys manage to get decent production on your economy and research planets? I always build two factories on each which, when a farm and entertainment center is added, usually leaves room for only 4-6 economy or research facilities on the planet. Problem is it takes forever and a day to build anything on any of these planets because my production is so low! How have other people solved this problem? Any thoug

Check the main forum page, there's a link to instructions on this issue. It's going to involve some legwork and some waiting on your part; in the meantime, you're going to have to reinstall the game if you want to even play 1.0. I agree that this was a regrettable decision in Stardock's otherwise excellent support relationship with its customers and products.

Speaking of references, here's to the awesome Raymond Feist reference in the second (I think) mission of the campaign. Fun little things like that definitely add to an experience, although admittedly for those purists among us, the ancient artifact of awesome power really should have been on Sethanon. ; )

I just reinstalled Gal Civ II so I can play it while waiting for the e-mail activating V 1.1 for me. While I had no problems before (aside from the occasional CTD which I'm pretty sure was a product of my video drivers), now I have absolutely no text in any of the game buttons. For example, the opening menu has all of the nice grey buttons with the options, but no text in any of them... Has this happened to anyone else? Will the 1.1 update fix this when I reinstall it?

If they eliminated the green/red options, wouldn't that simply end up with people trying every incrimentally greater offer until eventually they hit the acceptance zone? That's what I've ended up doing in prior games. This seems to be basically the same exact thing, only streamlined. I suppose you could impliment some sort of penalty for making offers, but for those who want their negotiations over interstellar boundaries with hive mind insects to be as realistic as possible that wo

I have recently downloaded the newest update to Galactic Civilizations 2, the 1.1 update. After installation I discovered that the game no longer runs on my computer. That machine does not have an internet connection, and so cannot register electronically. For all intents and purposes, the 1.1 update broke my copy of Galactic Civilizations. I understand that I can e-mail Stardock to have the game fixed, and I understand that this is promised to take place within 24 hours unless I h

Sadly I'll confess to only having read through about half the posts here, so hopefully I'm not restating anything too ridiculously obvious... I have much the same experience as Kingswood does with this game. If folks from Stardock have continued to follow this thread a) I'm duly impressed, and b) I do think a couple of things have been mentioned here which really should be tweaked. (For everyone else, while I understand all the theoretical

In my experience, the whole thing boils down to supply lines and attrition. I can build fleets of fighters that will take out my enemies' capital fleets, and I definitely agree with much of the sentiment here that the loss ratio ends up looking very nice. If I attack a ship that does say 40 points of damage with a bunch of ships that can only take, say, 16, they've wasted 24 points of damage on pure overkill. The problem is, let'

In my experience the small ships lose their value in the era of large & huge capital ships. While I really like the idea of using swarms of fighters rather than a couple of big ships, I tend to have two problems with that. 1) I can't fit enough ships into a fleet to make it feasible. The numbers always end up working against me, my large & huge fleets always end up with just better offense & defense numbers. 2) Inevitably I lose ships in

Forgive a probable repeat posting... Where can I download the updates to the game (for example the update to 1.0x) without using Stardock? I tried the Retail Update on the Downloads page, but that only says it changes registry settings to unlock Collector's Edition content. The computer that has Gal Civ installed can't access the internet, so I need an updater that I can burn to CD, but cannot find one... Any help would be appre

A couple of minor things that I think would be great additions: Stable Wormholes. Particularly on larger maps, or in the early stages of the game where space is at a premium wormholes could really change things depending on how and where they crop up. They could not only suddenly leave you facing those dreaded Yor centuries earlier than you thought you'd have to, but could also add choke-point tactics to the game. Starbase range. Someone I think mentioned this, and it re
