I was wondering what combat techs people go for, I find that by the time my cap ship is in its first fight with a human I already have 2 upgrades in the green HP tech. Giving me 10% health and repair rates. If they are really unlucky I also have the armor upgrade... was wondering what other people go for? Perhaps the lasers?

the only hard counters I could see being helpful or desirable is specifically for super weapons, and it largely depends on how or what the super weapon does. Sup Com has hard counters for nukes, IE anti-nukes. I wouldn't mind the same, but for anything else its just not needed.

No, most make up excuses for not using space suits, because they are inconvenient for the story teller. Star Trek, Star Wars, B5, Andromeda, BattleStar Galactica, Alien Series, Star Gate, Halo- All dominate the Scifi Medium as the most popular to date: granted none of these started as novels, but thats hardly an issue, they all have tons of novels now, and none have space suits constantly being worn, or even worn during combat. Space suits are for very special occasions, or a r

Oh and I doubt they have to worry about turbuculosis, Measles, the plague, being stabbed while they sleep (maybe a little of that) starving to death even on routine outings, and snow. I would be surprised if they don't have artificial gravity, so they probablly don't even have to devote 1/4th of their time to exercise. Certainly nothing like a 'forced march' of the days of yore. Major Stress was right about not comparing the eras too much, you simply can't hope to think that bu

Go laugh at someone really hard out loud when they are being serious, and odds are you might offend them. What do you care if I dont like it you should make an effort, its common courtesy, and I asked nicely. There is plenty of nastiness but ultimately it just isn't the same as facing a live opponent shredding you to pieces with intent In person. More importantly is the educational/training issue. There is a reason that modern armies don't have to worry to much about ful

for some reason people have trouble actually Reading ~ Im not comparing Sins to Total War, Im merely bringing up some side points, and how morale worked there and How it WOULDNT work in Sins. ~ Ron, while fear of death is still fear of death, there is enormous difference between being an ignorant peasant who is sitting in the cold rain watching heavily armed people marching at you and screaming from all sides, as opposed to a highly trained individual who is A. Very busy doing

well for the Dilgar war, I would have it be EA vs Dilgar, and then 2 weaker players each for League worlds... I think letting the other Big races in on this would detract from the scenario... story wise, those bigger races didn't bother with the confused area, and the Dilgar war was humanities, coming of age in war terms. Too bad the Minbari slapped em down hardcore a few years later lol

but then in the far more likely 8v8 scenario we have 2 dummy players or dummy zones. I think 8v8 is more likely to get played... sigh just have to make 2 versions...

Well we don't know if the Vasari or Advent will have a stealth capacity so that still may be possible... but honestly why would you even try to make the Shadows and other Ancients playable? Thats like beating up babies with baseball bats. They of course would be great for a special 'militia' force around certain planets lol! At any rate, I think B5 would fit best/be the funnest. There is just soooo much room and we have allot of predesigned star chart information to make a huge

Personally I am more into modding material that doesn't affect game-play directly. IE my second map creates allot of new randomized planet types with random numbers of asteroids, making each time you play vastly more unique than most maps. Including Pirate Homeworlds... SO I would be modding new maps, and planet types for map makers. Not to mention additional symbols/flags... maybe extra colors, and new planet textures and new anomalies. If later we have little pictures of our race in t

PS Did you play Total War 2? While you can watch a fight, that is pretty dull and more importantly foolish. You have extensive control over your units, and it is actually a very rewarding RTS in its own right.

the aim of the dev's is for you to sometimes not control the fight... and more importantly I did say 'Dire' circumstances and '5%' hardly a factor in what will be a losing battle, its mostly for aestetics. Much like how Grunts run away in any Halo game. I don't think 5% in an already lost fight is going to be an issue... might have to increase the percentile so that you will actually see this happen in a game... For example what I propose is that if you have a fleet of 10 Cobalts agains

Space Above and Beyond mods have been done before... but it requires allot of creative work as the show simply didn't provide enough, and the alien ships just didn't look too good beyond the fighters. But oh how I would love a TEC version of the Saratoga

I think the reason would be the second... the first is a tad wimpy... and if it were the case you could design very large ships that would simply store enough anti-matter to fuel a fleet for a one way trip to the smaller planetoids... which would perhaps be such a surprise as to entirely screw over an empire.

PS Mongoose Publishing produces a miniature game for B5, and they have fleshed out the fleets of all the races far beyond the canon, which could be used/grafted for inspiration for a mod... for example they just designed the Gaim Fleet... which was never given an appearance in any of the visual arts before.

Bah, you have plenty of control over morale in games like MTW 2... the issue is that in those games certain units inspire fear and certain attacks inspire panic, such as being flanked from both sides or the rear. This is simply not relevant in a 3d environment (or at least not Nearly as relevant) also ship crews are educated and wouldn't have quite the easy panic button as ignorant folk from bygone ages have had. That being said it would be loverly if the the overall fleet mor

Firstly: Go to a site called Raven Star Studios, and you will find plenty of inspiration for BSG ships outside of the current series. Secondly I think this game is perfect for Wing Commander, but just as much for Babylon 5, Star Wars, and not as much for Star Trek, but its certainly still very do-able. BTW I'd say B5 is the best as opposed to SW, as their are better defined sides... in SW, you have Empire Vs Rebels in one time frame, or Republic Vs Co

Id be happy to see morale be a factor; but currently I think we have that on a strategic scale with Culture... a tactical scale would be awesome, but I think it is a bit too late for such a complicated feature. Medieval Total War 2 has a great morale system IMO

Im not so certain the Dreadnought will become a heavy hitter... its description might be changed instead Ron though surely they will be balancing/fixing its abilities a bit more, as some of them just don't seem to cut mustard.
