Okay, let's try explaining it this way: we'll just look at Hangar Defense structures, okay? Let's posit a pair technologies, each of which adds one additional squadron. A

Thank you for the answer, Ollibert, but ... it's not quite the one I was looking for. I want to make the number of squadrons dependant upon technological advancement . In other words, to create technologies which increase the available command points for specific ships or structures. This way, if you have a Hangar Defense structure that starts with (say) 2 squadrons ... being able to research a technology that gives it a THIRD squadron, is my goal.

It strikes me that you could use this to produce "System Defense" style starships, too - using the right "starship shaped" models. Essentially, warships without the Jump Drive. Maybe they could be cheaper, maybe they would be faster within the gravity well, maybe they mount more guns, armor, or shields ... :)
