Holes in the design.
My biggest gripe is poor handling of tails and weapon objects. I'll be damned if I can get it to attack with weapons if they aren't on an actual hand possessing arm. Bloody irritating that, not a lot of point in having a mace on a tail when it's just there for looks. Maybe the game will use them differently, but if it's like the creature creator is this is a major letdown. In RL we have stegosaurus, scorpions, porcupines, but dangerous tails in spore require a hand?

The more icky, but less depressing due to insignificant game play ramifications, body shaping. I don't want to make a lardass, I want to make a giant scorpion with a spiked tail(yeah... the tail is a problem too) and a wide, flat body with them little insect legs sticking out. Ok, so I haven't got any insect legs either, but I can't make a wide body to start with. Nature isn't round dammit!

Flight doesn't appear to be in, too bad. I'd love to make a weak ass flier that dive bombed it's victims and flew back to safety.
It's an amazingly simple editor, EA can burn in hell, but the developers deserve every dime they make and then some. Short of serious flaws or a DRM issue more severe than the asinine three activations, I'll be getting the game. If they fix the editors shortfalls I might even buy the full version of it. Pissing away money to get something quicker isn't one of my strong points though.
