Dual Monitor Support

It would be great if this game had Dual Monitor Support. I find i play most of the game zoomed out cause i like to see the big picture, but then i miss alot of whats happening on a small scale. A game like this that has such contrast in combining 4E and RTS, imo, should support two monitors. It is would add SOOO much to this game to experiance both RTS and 4E at the same time. I know there are only a limited amount of us out there that would take advantage of this. But im willing to bet that a game of this scale, pushing the bounds of gaming the way your trying to, would be a great catalist for many to invest in some extra hardware. Not to mention it would really give some legitimacy the "ground breaking" nature of this already amazing game! It just seems a waist to let all those amazing moddle graphics go to waist 90% of the time...

I know this would cause most computers (even mine) to run slower then it already is trying to render everything... but it would be imensly worth it, especially with an option to not render moddles on one of the screens. Who votes for Dual Monitor Support?

Dual monitor support is VERY nice... for those with dual monitors

Duel Monitor support is something I'm waiting for with breathless anticipation, too! I can't wait to see how somebody manages to do that! (Preemptive strike, I know).

Why stop at dual monitor support? Have the game detect the number of monitors you can support and allow you to enable them. They could all start with the same display, then you could move the display on the one monitor to (for instance) a system you are attacking, while another monitor shows your ship factories. A third monitor could show a second battle taking place, etc. I have seen monitor rigs that have 6 or even 8 monitors. While it would take a pretty rich person to own one for personal gaming (as well as the multiple video cards required), having the game support that would be totally cool!! I could easily go get a second monitor and run the game on two monitors on my rig. It would rock if I could manage two battles at once. Right now, I just double hit the particular fleet key, but it still takes time to switch and is still much harder to track the two battles.

Sorry gang, we have no plans currently to support dual monitors in Sins (it's been brought up before). Very few gamers actually have dual monitors at home and the time/money working on such a feature could be spent better on things that everyone can use.

dumb lazy games that wont pay for two monitors!!!

...oh wait... i dont have two monitors... nevermind

... well at the very least i think it would be nice to have a little (picture in picture) monitor say in the bottom left of the screen that had a zoomed in view of any fighting that may be occurring with in my empire. I stole this idea from Star Trek: Armada... but it really would enhance game play! and it shouldnt be to hard to implement, specially since the only thing there right is kinda useless or could be easily moved or resized.

You mean the categorized report stuff? I use those all the time to jump to planets under attack, or ships that have just leveled...

ok point taken... i realize its not useless... but it sure does take up alot of space. it could easily be moved to allow for a little p-in-p monitor (kinda like a reverse minimap)

You mean Ironclad would foolishly choose game concept, game play and graphics over Dual Monitor Support?
no, the devs are just lazy

and the pinp would be kinda cool, but you might have graphics problems with zooming, since this game is kinda 3d viewing angles

yeah they are slackers...

Ugh! Old thread, I know, but come on! Seriously, play dual-mon in Sup-Com and tell me it isn't worth it.

Different game. I have dual monitors (and played dual-monitor SupCom), and I don't see much use for a second screen in Sins, except maybe keeping diplomacy or something screen open permanently, but yeah..

No doubt. I guess people will have to get TripleHeader2Go or something like that.

I wish more games would have dual monitor support. In fact, I have yet to play one that I enjoy that has it. Although having two monitors does allow me to watch things or browse the net while playing a game, or like World of Warcraft, run two copies of the game at once and play both characters at the same time. So even if they don't support it, having two LCD's is still useful.

I agree with the dual monitor support and would love to have it, but I understand that the dev team has bigger things to work on (as they should!).
The screen-within-a-screen sounds nice, though. I would really love to have a strategic map up with a little screen inside zoomed in on an exciting battle.

You guys should consider this, though; the ability to have multiple views going on at the same time on different monitors (or even the same one) could give people with better hardware an unfair advantage.

Audible, people with better hardware ALREADY have an advantage. No matter how well a game scales down (and this one does admirably!) the people with better hardware have at least a slight edge. Always.

Now, don't confuse the rich bastards from actually being skilled, I'm just saying... :)

Devs/Staff:

I would not understimate the value of Dual Monitor support. Certainly its value is eclipsed by balancing and crucial gameplay fixes, but beyond that, it is must-have feature. I liken not having dual monitor support to games like Warcraft 3 that don't let you change your resolution beyond a certain point. Also, in my group of friends, after having played this game at a lan, many wish to buy it, but are thrown off from the lack of dual monitor support.

Come on devs, you have made a great game, don't ruin it by something as stupid as this.

Maybe they will allow it one day. At a minimum I want all the info oriented windows on one monitor and the map in another one. And if I can have it for four monitors to work together - woohoo!!!

I would love it if we were allowed to have two screens with two different locations doing things, however, i understand that that might be unfair in multiplayer. So id settle for one screen showing all the statuses and the other giving orders.

This sucks I was told when I bought the game it supported to monitors. Stupid me for not looking on the web site first. I am not condemning the game or company but

I disagree. I play wow,cs and TF2 and belong to many forums of hard core gaming and computer modding/over clocking Many gamers have 2 monitors however Sli wont support 2 but I still like 2 monitors on 2 different video cards. (supcom wont support 2 cards YET but they do 2 monitors) I currently am running 2 8800s and the new mobos are already coming out with options to sli 2 and single a 3rd card. Hard ware is advancing and the games need to do the same thing. As many of you have noticed PC gaming is slowing down and the Consoles are catching up as far as hardware and Game ingenuity.Gaming companies seem to be falling behind with Developing games that really use the available hardware.

Sorry for my typing errors I SUCK at typing but I think you get where I am going with this.

What a lot of you guys are forgetting is that while a lot of us do run dual displays now (I disagree with Frogboy on this point, many gamers DO have dual displays), running games on dual monitors isn't as easy as running a second desktop.

Considering most dual monitor systems are off a SINGLE video card (yes, I know some of you have dual 8800 (Super Duper Elite Plus ZZZTX)s, or whathavya, but most of us are on reasonable SINGLE video cards.

The problem is when you enable the second display, you're doubling the resolution the game has to support... Like running at 1600x1200 on your 7800GTX? Try 3200x1200 and see your video card CRY. This is the real problem - very few video cards could produce an attractive output in 3d for that resolution.

Even games that DO support dual displays (very rare) usually only support a 2d interface on the second screen for scorecards, etc. Something like that would be nice - put the infocards and such on the second screen - but to have the entire display span 2 monitors would be beyond the hardware capability of most systems.

I don't care about dual monitor support, but I wish I could use all of the zoom functions even when both monitors are set up. As it is now, the pan will not work in the direction the other monitor is in unless I change my comp settings to turn the second monitor off. Even if I can't play with two monitors, I'd like to be able to play without having to switch off one of the monitors first.
