Ship Colours & Badges - will we see more variety

I asked a similar question amongst a whole bunch a little while ago.

Let me explain.
I think it would be great to have a colour table much like Homeworld or Dawn of War.
THis gives an infinite variety of colours and symbols.
It would also be great to actually be able to paint larger portions of the ships, atm I think its more like painting the trim rather than much else.

Its ok the way it is, just would not mind some more variety, especially in the colour department. I don't even think their is an option for white.

The ability to paint ones fleet, really does add to the longevity of the game.

There is no in-game color editor but it's something we've considered for post-release. In the meantime you can have infinite control over the colors by opening colors.color with notepad and tweak to your heart's delight.

Thats no problem at all for me.

However if I change the colours, will they be drawn correctly for other players.
For instance I make a black and white fleet scheme, I play an 8 player game online with said scheme.

Offcourse I should just try this myself

not much point then. I like the enemy to see me coming in all my fleets magnificent glory mwahahahahah.. ha!
Ignoring the laws of heraldry, I like a yellow striped grey bodied fleet.
For my ground troops I like a dark military olive drab with a yellow stripe.

White and yellow does not look too bad either, kinda angellic.

I guess we will see it in an addon.

P.S. Just to make a point though on this, I LAN regularly and guess what takes up most time in DOW and HW2? People wanting thier colours and badges to be just right. Its enormous fun to have your own customised paint schemes. People get used to knowing what you look like in game too. Ahhhh there are Destraex's ships, better form a plan... quick!

It's RGBA in hex. I'm guessing you don't know hex since you didn't recognize it, you can use the hex converter at this link, alpha blending is the transparency, 0-255 for transparent to opaque, the same numbers apply to the color codes for red blue and green levels.

No.... hex (full: hexadecimal) is 16. 0123456789ABCDEF are all valid values for hex. Hex is usually done in pairs, allowing for up to 256 discrete values per pair. (You may have noticed that in a lot of older games, and in even some more modern games, various values are capped at 255 -- they can go from 0 to 255 because they're stored in a hex format. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2, so its 32 "bit" (16 bit with a doubled up value)).

I think he's saying that he was expecting 6 hex digits (RGB), not 8 (RGBA)

Also, you're completely wrong with your definition of a 32 bit integer. 32 bit means it uses 32 'bits,' ones or zeros. A signed 32 bit integer goes from around -2.14 million to 2.14 million. 0-255 is an unsigned 8 bit integer.
