Mine simply just freezes then goes black screen. and then starts back up again. ive tried to alt+tab and i notice i got a warning ! sign on the bottom right corner where all your notification icons are. so i clicked on it and it said something about my video card cannot be found but it was then recovered. hmmm im guessing its something to do with my video card.

is anyone else having the same problem as me? please let me know

ps. sorry for my poor grammer/english. English is not my first language.

Update your video drivers. If you have a desktop machine, find them at nvidia.com, if a laptop, then laptopvideo2go.com.

i had this exact same problem until i updated my cards drivers after that it ran smooth as anything with no issues. Im guessing your using something like a nvidia 7 series or below as they seem to have the problems

hey all, i have been having a huge problem with all of my games in vista (32 bit edition), including this one. The problem is that the games i play all crash, giving me a black screen, at which point i get either no response (sometimes the screen turns green or pinkish) from anything and i have to hard boot (no reset button on my computer)or it crashes to desktop and i get a long directx error(first poster has a screen shot http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=52192, i could provide one as well but i only sometimes get the error, so i don't want to spend all day trying to get it again) except for rise of nations, (and it only works when ati's graphics drivers are *not* installed). unfortunately that Microsoft fix doesn't apply to me as i already have vista service pack one. Frogboy's suggestion didn't work either
so if anyone has a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: My drivers are all up to date, i even tried ATI's Beta Drivers
EDIT: I downgraded to xp, the games still crash to a black screen

Turns out it was my video card, ended up changing to an nvidia card and everything works, (plus i can all the video stuff on highest in windows XP, even though I got the card for less than $100( i hear a lot that you can't get a good card for anything less than $100 so i was pleasantly surprised by the card's performance) i find it strange, however, that even though xp is on an entirely different hard drive i can no longer boot vista

Hi,

So, how does SoaSE stand in vista 64 compatibility? I have a machine with Vista Home Premium 64 and I was wondering if the game will run fine.

Hi All.

Only just bought the game and had crash after crash after crash once the game was a couple of hours old.

I tried everything mentioned here with no change to this.

What seems to work for me is to run the game in windowed mode and also wih XP compatabilty turned on and lastly, as an administrator.

It does not seem to be a 100% cure as I had one crash after another 3.5 hours of play, but I could finish the game instead of crashing every 5 or so mins like before.
This with all setings on max.

My second game was a medium map,and I completed it with no crashes!

But.... I lost the second game as I could not build a large fleet due to needing Vasari tech to research when I was playing as TEC!!!! another bug???

Hope this helps others who cannot run the game under Vista.

Eh? How so?

OPPPSSS!!

Being a newbie I failed to see the suttle change that the buttons have when research is completed or not so I was trying to to a level higher than I had completed!!
The Vasari tech chain sounded the same.

Just completed my third game and only had one crash. The autosave was only 5 mins out so did not loose to much.

The game is very playable now that it only crashes once every 3 or 4 hours or so.

Hopefully they will fix the Vista crashes in 1.1.

If my system can run Crysis at my monitor res of 1600 x 1200 with everything on, it should be able to handle Sins.

there is an easy way to fix it, just take bill ates hostage and demand microsoft to debug vista.

I have had the game unexpectedly crash on me all of once since I bought it. I'm using Vista as well.

I have been running Sins on my Vista SP1 laptop since around it came out. I have had no problems till about a week ago. The game would let me run it for about 5 minutes before crashing, taking me back to me desktop and telling me that my memory is low. Again I have been playing it fine for months now. I updated my drivers and it still doesn't work. Any ideas? I need my fix.

Vista SP1
2 gig
nvidia 8600M GS

Also I tried lowering my graphic settings (the ones that have been working for months) and it still crashed after about 5 minutes. This is irritating.

uninstall whatever you put in last week that is taking up extra memory..

Yea that was one of the first things I did. I actually uninstalled a lot of crap that I had just installed and some stuff that went a little ways back that I never used. No dice. I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it and still no luck. This blows.

Edit: I tried uninstalling something that I used and I thought might be taking up some resources and it still didn't work. I opened the game and it did the same thing, but instead of telling it to close I just let it run. What will this do? It seemed to run fine for the minute or two I left it open. I don't know, maybe it is time to reformat.

I've had some crashes early on in huge galaxies; i've installed the hotfix and no luck on Vista HomePremium x64:

Specs:

EVGA 122-CK-NF68-T1
QX6850 Quad OC'd to 4.4G
8GB G-Skill DDR2 800
8800 Ultra x2 [SLI]
Sennheiser headset sound card [IDK, its USB, sue me]
Samsung Spinpoint T 500GB 7200
1010W PSU //OCZ GameXStream

Perhaps its LARGEADDRESSAWARE like SC?

I used to have the crashing issues, but it was a driver problem for me. Are all of your NVIDIA drivers up-to-date?
Definitely check at nvidia.com to make sure the drivers are up to date.

So yeah.

Got vista.

Intel e8650 (dual core 3.0)

Nvidia 8800gts.

4 gig ram.

Ill be playing for a while, maybe an hour, maybe 2, then I hear the windows ping, and the game freezes up. Press any key at all, and  it drops to the desktop. Very dissapointing, since I really love the game, but getting kicked out in the late portions of a decent battle is pretty poor. Means I can either reload from last autosave and fight the last half hour over again (boring), start again (fun for a few times) or return it and go buy a game that isn't broken.

Sucks too, since I *really* love Stardock, and appreciate them, and their lack of copy protection. I could have just as easily pirated the game, but their devotion to the fans is really appreciated. It's just the annoyances like this that really snap me out of the love-fest.

Do you get a minidump? If so, zip it up along with a dxdiag and send it to [email protected].

I'm on Vista 32-bit, My crashes is accompanied by "This program has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual manner. blah blah blah. I really don't think my issue is graphics related, It does it no matter my settings. I can even do "windowed" mode. I really hope an update from Stardoc comes out to fix this issue. This game is great fun, but it gets annoying when it crashes and you've not had the chance to save recently.

So, anyone know how to halt this Runtime C+++ problem? I play huge fights with max computer foes, so. this happens every twenty minutes or so and its really pissin me off to the point of not wanting to play because I have to keep resetting and build THAT system or THAT fleet again etc.
