I haven't had any issues, but have 1GB of video memory, could that have anything to do with it? Maybe it doesn't need to use as much virtual address space.

I have experienced identical issues to what is stated above. However, after no small amount of tinkering, I have been fortunate enough to completely rectify this issue on Vista by doing the following:

1) Setting "Windows XP SP2" under Program Compatibility.

2) Running the executable (directly) as Administrator.

There are multiple ways to accomplish #2 under Vista, the easiest of which is right-click -> Run As...

Please note that the Run As option ~must~ be applied directly to the .exe, not the launcher.

All settings at 100% (All "Highest", bloom, 4x AA, trails, debris, etc)

FYI: nVidia GeForce 7900GTX, 2GB DDR2 system RAM.

Hope this assists some of you.

Tell me, why does MediaDirect play open every time i quit out of the game?

Without fail, it happens, can't imagine why except for a directory error.

That's a good question, too... Happens to me, without fail.

Vista-64 nVidia Drivers which have not remedied the problem (Keep in mind, anything above 169.44 is not an officially released nVidia driver and is a Beta driver by nVidia. The latest, 174.53, is dated March 11th):

512mb 8800GT is my card.

169.25
169.28
171.12*
171.16
171.20
173.65
174.20
174.12
174.53

*Reported to be the most stable from the site I downloaded the drivers from.

Just installed the 169.44 Drivers, the latest official nVidia ones, and they appear to have worked! Now I'm actually noticing other bugs that I didn't notice before because it crashed too often!

Had my first lockup of the game yesterday. It happened after approx 3 hours of play time in a large random galaxy. Sound locked and it HARD locked my system, no error messages were present, nor was there any Windows error information on the reboot, to make sure I removed my Creative drivers and reinstalled using the latest web release in safe mode. I have not tried playing the game since, have not had the time.
System spec

P4 935 D 3.2x2
EVGA 122-CK-NF68-T1
4 gig A-Data PC800 DDR2
Asus 8600GT w/256mb DDR3
Creative X-Fi Extreme Fatal1ity Pro w 64mb ram
WD 320 gig V2 3.0 SATA Hard Drive
ASUS 1814BTW SATA ver 1.5 DVD-RAM/ROM
500 Watt PS

All drivers are the latest that can be found, have no issues with C&C 3, World of Warcraft, Hellgate: London. Have played each of these games for 4 hours or more each. I have SP 1, the actual release to Manufacturing installed, Have had NO issues with the SP since it was in installed a 2 weeks ago. Once you install the SP, you cannot install the previous versions of the Vista hotfixes since they are included in the build.
Are there any files I can search for that would Help in figureing this out

Sincerely

Setting all graphics to "High" instead of "Highest" solved all problems for me, as suggested a few posts ago.

I have not had these issues myself *knock on wood* but I know that at start up I let the game "decide" my visual settings for me (or are they already set at certain values out of the box?). Just for reference sake, I'm running a Quad core (2.4ghz), NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT and 3gb of ddr2 ram...

I have the same configuration (HP Media PC M9077c) and ran into a hang and mini-dump. I'll try the suggested fix. However, I've had problems with this new PC in the past. Basically, the machine fails to recognize USB devices or fails to recover after hibernating. At first, I chalked up the Sins problems to the PC.

Lowering your standards and enjoyability of the game is not a fix.

I downloaded this update and my problem still remains.

Also, I just updated my dedicated SC driver at the Creative Labs website (the x64 version of Creative's Vista Web Update 5, I think it just came out in the past few days), and I downloaded the nVidia 64-bit beta driver v.174 (I have dual 8800 GTXes). I am getting lockups like crazy, but since I did those 2 things it has gotten like WAY better.

But it's still there.

BTW, for all you that don't know yet (but I guess most of you probly do, you guys seem pretty HC and elite), SP 1 is out. You might want to hit the MS site and pick that up if you haven't already.

So, does anyone have any suggestions for this chik who has thought of all (or most of) the "obvious" things and done them and is STILL having the problem? HELP !!

I too am running a Quad core, Intel extreme edition QX6700, dual series 8's (GTXes) and 4 gigs of 1066 Mhz Corsair dominator backclocked to 800. 680i chipset mobo, Vista business x64 (Cuz I absolutely detest Windows Media Center, I don't have a home network and my computer's not hooked up to the TV, so I thought I'd be WAY better off getting the rather awesome Windows Backup that comes with VBE, and so far, I ain't been sorry one bit, but that could change, I guess, if having VBE turns out as having something to do with these issues.

Any suggestions? HELP !!

I feel ya, bro, me too. You DO know there's a new SB update, don't ya, just released in the past week or two? It's XFi web update version 5. Also, the beta for nVidia's driver version 174 for the series 8's was released today. Is your nVidia card an 8 or 9?

But i did those things and I'm getting the same thing you are. But it got a LOT better after I installed those 2 drivers. Go on the nvidia website and do a driver search, and enable the "beta" option, and you'll see version 174 appear in the results. It's a beta but I've been using nothing but betas on all my systems for the past 18 months or so and I've found them to be just as good as a regular release.

If ya can't find it, let me know and I'll post you a link.

Peace.

I fear I must agree, those of us who slaved away and did without and are still eating Maruchan Raman 3 or 4 times a day so we could pay top dollar for the latest hardware feel we are entitled to crank everything up to max with no problems.

It's really frustrating, and it gives creedence to the the wannabe kiddie console-gamers who are constantly saying PC gaming is dead. We don't wanna give them that kind of satisfaction, do we? C'mon, Ironclad, fix this, PLEASE.

Windows Update someone suggested....Does NOT install for me....Vista with SP1....

"Update Does NOT apply to your system"

is the message I get when installing....

HOWEVER when I back down the Effects from highest to High ONLY...no more crashes...must be something in the graphics driver of DX 10 bug....will see if the new drivers someone listed fixes this or if there are any DX10 updates available.

When loading any of my saved games with a ton of active stuff without fail in ~10 seconds after starting the minidump would occur....with effects all set to High rather than Highest....no problems at all....guess I will live without the effects for now

Hey guys, post Vista SP 1, SINS now has a constantly flickering screen, as in everything in the game flickers uncontrollably. I can still read text fine, but all the graphics flicker and change very quickly and therefore make the game unplayable.

Video Card: nVidia 7900 GO GS
Ram: 2 gigs
OS: Vista Premium Home Edition 32-bit

Any solution out there?

From those screenshots, looks like your game is completely corrupted... might give a reinstall a shot first thing.

Thats the scary thing, I've already reinstalled it x2 :( Weird thing is, I left the CD on its own after installing it. Had to do a clean wipe because Windows got corrupted, and upon reinstalling it post-recovery, this happens.
