Halo MOD?

Halo MOD?

Ok so I am just throwing this idea out there because I am a Halo fanatic and I think that this game could easily incorporate the Halo universe into it. I am not a very good designer but I can provide support and more ideas. There are already two races that could easily be changed into the Humans and the Covenant( TEC and Advent). All we would have to do would be to change ships some and add  gauss guns to most TEC Cap ships. I know this might take a long time but if it means that we will finally have a Halo space combat game then it will be well worth it.

Well, illogical is one of the best words I would use to describe Halo. So i guess it all fits.

Books and even the games have no problem pointing out every other ship has point defense, why wouldn't they say if the SMAC had them?

Maybe they assumed people would assume?

well if they did why were sop many small landing craft able to board them no problem i think the defense of the smac where the crew members inside

so how's the mod progressing? And are there going to special fleet commander bonuses, like having Keys at the helm would give a 10% damage, targeting, etc. bonus?
He was referring to the SMAC platforms. Nowhere is it mentioned they have point defense. Although for something that is that big of a target, I (the operative word here) would put some point defenses on it.Correct, the UNSC have point defense guns, but the SMAC's don't. If they did, it'd say so SOMEWHERE. Books and even the games have no problem pointing out every other ship has point defense, why wouldn't they say if the SMAC had them? So I believe they don't, as illogical as it is, it's just the way the UNSC did it.

like i said before, they probanly wouldnt have mentioned one in the game or books because it wouldnt change the story line in any way. There is a lot of possible info that they never put in the game or books simply because it was irrelavent such as how many colonized planets where there, did the 3 other planets that where discovered that also a human population before they were found already began space travel, did the covenant have an established shipfactory system in there there home territory? These are all fine examples of things that will probably be never covered by bungie even though it would give much insight on halo lore

At what point did they say it was easy for the landing craft to get aboard? they could have just swarmed the station since the covenant are known to use there numbers as an advantage. On the point with the infantry in the platform, they were all there for the cerimony, not cause they were posted there. do you think under normal circumstances they would have infantry aboard? they where boarded because the covanent needed to get past that particular battle group as soon as possible instead of the assult carriers jumping just outside of the SMACs range and hitting it from there. it would take to much time and since this was one of the few times the covenant where severly outnumbered (at least untill reinforcements arived in halo 3) it would also have been suicide

in halo book, the flood, the covenant wanted to capture the ship to gather info on the human command structure and planet locacations and the like. it was a special mission for that particular fleet

Point defense guns aren't mentioned anywhere though, not in the books, not in the games nowhere.

Actually, it was pummeled with plasma torps both before, and after the boarding actions. Which would account for why the boarding shuttles managed to get aboard.

If they're willing to mention other totally irrelevent facts, like how many point defense guns a Frigate has, they'd be willing to mention how many a SMAC has. After all, when has a frigates point defense guns ever been used? Probably in the books, but point is they aren't relevent to the story-line. So if they're willing to go out of their way to give details like that, they'd do the same for the SMAC platforms.

They never said it, they showed it. During all the cutscenes in Halo 2 you never ONCE saw a gun on the SMAC shooting towards Seraphs, or the boarding craft. Even when you went outside into space, and watched the giant gun fire a SMAC round, you never saw any small bullets flying out of the SMAC, you never saw any guns. There were NONE to be found.

you didnt see the SMACs in halo 3
End of quote

But you read about them in books, and saw them in Halo 2, so it was obvious they existed. Where does it ever, even once, mention point defense guns on a SMAC? Nowhere, not in any of the games, or books. So the fact that it's not even hinted at gives a lot of weight to the idea they simply didn't have them.

That just it, the Super-MAC's were meant to be long-range one-hit-kill (for lack of better term) "sniper" weapons.

The whole design of them revolved around knocking out enemy ships long before they reached their effective weapons range. And chances are that if a planet has these harbringers of doom then it's probably important enough to also have it's own planetary defence fleet, which would act as it's anti-fighter, as well as close-medium rage suppport.

OK now first of all do you really think in Halo 2 bungie would take the time to show point defence guns firing out side the SMAC lvls? No because it would be a whast to ad that in out side there just worried a bout making the lvl inside that your play fun and interesting. And the books why would they say "oh just FYI SMACS have point defence" it would be irrelevent.

All modern naval ships have point defence that can shoot every thing from jets to missiles out of the sky, and halo is how many years in the future? And plus if point defences were shooting at boarding craft in halo 1 and 2 then the first missions in those games would have been lame, so bungie not going to worry about them in the game. But logical weapon design says they would need to be there.

Ok this is getting old, I've allready countered the whole "Why would they say something irrelevent" arguement. Going off your arguement, of why would they go "SMAC's have point defenses!" in the books, answer me this, why did they bother going "Halcyons, frigates, destroyers, and Marathons have point defenses!". Knowing that ships have point defenses is irrelevent to all plots in the books, but they say it anyways.

I mean hell, they go so far as to specify exactly how many point defense guns a ship has, and even what caliber round they fire! So obviously the books have NO problem giving out "irrelevent" details, so if they're willing to go to such depth with ships, why not the SMAC platforms?

As for your game comment, why bother making the MAC gun fire during the outside portion of the SMAC level? It's irrelevent, and adds nothing to the level except detail. Oh yeah, detail, THAT's why they'd add point defense guns. To immerse the player more. That's why they added archer missile pods and point defense guns to the frigate in Halo 3. And hell, they mighta been on the frigate in Halo 2, we just didn't have the chance to see em.

So all in all, stop making up retarded excuses. The end fact is, NOWHERE does a canon source state a SMAC has point defense guns, and as illogical as it is, and as much as you'd all like to think they do, they don't. And this mod strives for realism, and so the SMAC's ingame shouldn't have point defense either.

P.S. I think Spectre got it right, I only know of two planets with SMAC's, Reach and Earth. So if the planet is important enough to have SMAC's, it has a full time defense fleet that can act as point defense and anti-fighter screen, why bother building point defense guns on the SMAC, and keep it supplied, when the fleet surrounding it can deal with fighters?

P.S.S. Here's an idea, for all of you who aren't content with the way this is, email Bungie and ask them if SMAC's have point defense guns. They're usually pretty good about answering emails, surprisingly enough, so get a response and that'll be that. Cuz Untill I hear official word about this, I'll go off what I've seen. Which is absolutely nothing.

it makes for a better story. what sounds better "a halcyon cruiser had many weapons and a mac gun" or " a halcyon cruiser had a large armament of 50 cal point defense guns that could track a seraph fighter"

I agree in the strongest terms, this should happen. Your idea's time has come!

(I wanted to reply, but hit the wrong button and started a new thread. Not trying to steal the idea, just support... alot. I'm desperately tired, be merciful <:| )

i am still stunned that the SMAC will not be a repair station, even though it had its own hangar

Exactly why I put "irrelevent" because details aren't irrelevent when it comes to books. But my point still stands, if they're willing to give such details about ships, they'd do the same about SMAC's, the fact that they haven't tells me SMAC's simply had no point defenses. I mean the books give plenty of details about the SMAC's main gun, if it had other armaments why wouldn't they even mention them?

Overlooked?

Even so, we can't go around picking and choosing what's canon and what isn't. If we do that, this mod is no longer Halo, it's some lame fanon mod. I mean that's like back to that shield thing. All sources indicate that SMAC's do not have point defenses, and as much as we may feel differantly, to put point defenses steps away from Halo, and moves the mod towards fanon in a very un-needed way.

What's Bungie's email that I should send that to? (I can find the support and webmaster emails easy enough, but if there is another better suited...)

I have no idea, I just know that whenever someone emails them for this type of thing, they usually respond.

1) Go to bungie.net

2) Login using your Windows Live ID (aka your xbox 360 profile)

3) Private Message Lukems, Shishka, etc.

4) Admit your not true halo fans if you don't already know how to contact bungie. :NOTSURE:

One can be a Halo fan without playing the Halo games online every waking hour. I am a Halo fan, and by that I mean the overall story, not the games. The games are overrated, IMHO.

Halo fan, yes. Just like someone can be a Warhammer 40,000 fan and not want to play Dawn of War.
