Arguments from realism have no place in a game.

Ships need to spin along a central axis in order to simulate gravity.
Stars should be much bigger than planets.
Faster than light travel shouldn't be possible. It should take weeks to get from one planet to the next.
You shouldn't get the benefit of new research with old ships, especially not instantaneously.
You shouldn't be able to spawn billions of people on a planet within minutes.
You shouldn't have to research trade ports/broadcast centers/take-your-pick.
Each planet should have an elliptical path of movement around the star and their periods should all be different.
Bombarding a planet that you're about to take over with nukes is... well, impractical to say the least.
