Things that make no sense in Sins

Things that make no sense in Sins

Scavenger hunt?

I just noticed that in Sins, the refineries (at least for TEC) spew "noxious gas" into space much like an Earthly smokestack, with the gas flowing diagonally out. Now, physics as we know them would indicate that unless the gas is being FIRED (like a missile) out of the refineries, it would spread out pretty evenly, somewhat like how dye spreads in water.

Thus, I've decided to launch a Sins scavenger hunt for things that defy physics, normality, even the time and space itself! No points, and just for fun. Let's see what you can find!

The fact that after 10 years the TEC can somehow push to a stalemate both the Vasari and Advent. You would think the Vasari would be able to steamroll the TEC with their vastly superior ships and technology, and the Advent had a thousand years to design and prepare for their revenge. Yet somehow they get ground to a halt after one decade?

Well, keep in mind that the TEC have lots and lots and lots of planets ... the Advent are all coming, I guess, from one place, and the Vasari have lost their homelands and cultural centers.

TEC has a huge numbers advantage.

As I remember it, the TEC were throwing everything at the Vasari, and were finally getting some hope when the Advent arrived. Then they had a crisis with all their stuff tied up with the Advent running around unopposed.

not everything, they still had some old geriatric people to fight the advent

it's being fired out.Physics is overrated.   just look at EVE-Online.

But we're gods looking over the battlefield and telling out people what to do and where to go etc

As a result of our divine powers, we can hear sound in a vacuum! Divine powers indeed

I'm also disapointed with the way ships move. I had a similar argument in X3, where capital ships destroyed themselves on asteroids because they tried to turn their way through them and could not. Eventually they did adopt the stop, turn, move, way of moving them.

Having ships your trying to get to safety take a detour through the enemy lines into point blank range of their guns is just stupid, when they should just be flipping over and accellerating away.

I'm also disapointed with the map creation. The larger maps look like galaxies, not star systems. To maintain some semblance of star systems, the maps should show planets and asteroids grouped in obvious orbits around gas giants, which obviously orbit the sun.

then im guessing that youve never heard of Galaxy Forge

Because everyone knows Earth orbits Jupiter, right? :P

With ships fighting in close orbit to planets, there would be sound <---Accurate (Fighting in anomalies, NO!)

Moons maybe...

OO, can we have Comets (Schumacher -> Jupiter) randomly smash into planets!

How do ships stop when they have no reverse engines?

Would it not make sense for Starships to jump in and out of a solar system from the sun's northern or southern pole? Not only do ships have to skip flying around an entire sun just to face the right direction, but it also would be practical irl in order to avoid bumping into planets. Just my two cents...

I would like it if the planets orbits could be observed e.g. a planet close to the sun orbits faster (in revolutions) than a planet further out. Unfortunately this could present the problem of phase lane shifts (i.e what were two adjacent planets may later find themselves on opposite sides of the sun)...but I would like the realism of a more accurate solar system model.

This was tried in the early development too and also dismissed as unfun/unmanageable :P

I love to have sounds and explosions so I only fight battles in nebulaic sectors!  ;)

and this is a random thread counting the many Continuity Errors that this Epic game has for no obvious reason than to merely point them out and mock the designers for their lack of scientific infromation and finding much needed enjoyment from their psychological distress.......

in other words

ITS FOR THE LULZ

Given true Newtonian physics and how useless warships in space would be because of it, the entire concept of Sins' warfare is in itself implausible. Once a spaceship starts moving, it can't really maneuver until it can slow itself - at which point it would be drilled into oblivion by it's attackers. It's sort of like trying to run on ice in tennis shoes. That aside, though, I still have enjoyed the demo enough that I'm looking to buy it after I cash my paycheck tomorrow. I think a game with what would be the more realistic and plausible version of space warfare would get rather boring, that being more of a Cold War Era-esque game of ballistic missile ping-pong.

Space, in reality, is rather boring if you don't like looking at the scenery or researching phenomena. For the sake of an enjoyable sci-fi space title, the unrealistic doesn't bother me. Besides, I spent far too much on 5.1 speakers to ever play a modern game that was sans sound.

The sound is added in by a combination of sensor readouts and computer assistance to make use of every mental processing faculty of a commander. Sound gives quick audio cues for how a battle is going, and speed counts!

Of course you realize that we humans do not understand all that the universe has to offer. And several scientific theories over the years have been either proven wrong or at least not to be the only factor in the grand scheme of things.

So, with that in mind... who knows what scientific discoveries will be made in the future that will allow space ships to move more freely in outer space.

Just a thought. ;)
