Fighter & Bomber docking suggestion.

I noticed that by default all bombers and fighters stay launched from their hangars, flying off to engage targets then return to hover in space waiting for the next engagement.

Why not change this so the fighters & bombers stay docked only launching when enemies are in the area? (this would apply both to hangar structures and ships with fighter/bomber wings) (and maybe an option to "keep launched" if you want a paricular group to be ready to engage far form the hangar)

This would:

-Cut down on cpu/gpu load since the only fighters/bombers engaging the enemy are rendered/computed

-Clean up star systems when viewed as a mass of fighters/bombers sitting in space won't clutter up the area.

-Make the game more realistic feeling and make it easier when selecting single ships mixed in with a group of carriers. (like a scout ship)

I'm not sure how easy this qwould be to code but would be nice to see none the less.

This sounds like a great idea - Homeworld did something of this nature.  They need to turn launching of craft to an abilityt and set it to auto to that it happens only during combat - great idea.

This is a really good suggestion.  Fighters and Bombers should stay docked until there is an enemy around.

There is a button on carriers (and I believe hangers as well) which "docks all" and "undocks all."  Thing is, I believe they wouldn't automatically undock in an attack because the purpose is probably to dock strikecraft in case of heavy flak.

Aye that's the function of it, to keep them from being torn up by anti fighter fire. (it also works great on the ships when  jumping long distances because there;s no pause to collect all the fighters before each jump)
