this is a sort of general request, it doesn't need to get dealt with immediately, but I just wanted to bring it to attention and maybe discuss it and see, if it leads somewhere.
when you hover over a stack of units, like hcs or carriers, you only get one big percentage of shield and hull and that is all. I think this is fairly little information if you want to check on the general health of your units. after all, this is vital if you need to judge how a battle is going and whether you need to retreat or press the attack. of course, you can do a visual check, hold down alt and check the ships themselves, but I find that too confusing in larger battles. possible, but difficult.
what I propose is that instead of just displaying a compound statistics, how about a simple list that shows all the ships in it and the hp? in the squadron manager for example you get a similar possibilty of checking the health of all your squads. it's not interactive, but it does not need to be, not for that purpose, if you want to get individual ships out of battle - that is if you even bother or have time for it in a larger engagement - then you'd probably use the visual, but for a nice quick overview of how the status of your fleet is, the extra display of units per stack would help.
unstacking is not an option for me I'm afraid. I'd get overwhelmed by all the icons that it would result in total confusion. after all, stacking/ unstacking is global and affects everything. it it could be switched on/ off on a grav well basis or for individual stacks, maybe, that would even help commanding, but as is, I'd much prefer stacked.
I could try to jury-rig a picture, if it's not quite clear of what my desired new state looks like, but my artistic talents are fairly limited.
