You didn't buy the second tier of phase missile upgrades until about hour 3 (which in a normal game would essentially mean never). Even more puzzling, you researched the ability to create Overseers MUCH earlier than this, but only bought a handful (if even that) of the unit. To me, it would seem like the phase upgrade would be much more valuable as it affects the units used the most throughout the game (assailant, fighter, bomber, skirantra, kortul).
Is there some sort of cost/benefit ratio I'm not aware of?
I should have bought the next phase missile upgrades much sooner, that was a mistake on my part -- my focus was constantly being pulled to where I was being attacked or raided, or my current fight, or trying to chase down Hedgehog's raiding fleet, and I didn't have much time to think about research. You think you would have time to relax in a 5 hour game, but I was pretty much constantly under pressure because I was fighting two people. I actually remember thinking "dangit, forgot to get this" when I noticed I had not yet gotten the next level of upgrades.
I also wanted to get some more Overseers going, but they were the first to die everytime I fought Hedgehog. I just didn't have the resources to get an army of them, they are much more expensive than Hoshiko's. I was in very short supply of crystal through the whole game, I was constantly selling metal and buying crystal just to make more ships and rebuild buildings that had gotten raided, which also is why I was doing less research overall. By end game I was pretty much buying crystal for phase gates and to fuel RA, which was my last "Ace in the Hole" to try and pull out a win.
