[MOD IDEA] Semi-Freeform-Style Mod

Ideas? Comments? Questions? Criticisms?

Well, I got this very interesting, and IMO AWESOME idea for a SoaSE mod. Unfortunately for non-Entrenchment users, this will need Entrenchment. Sorry. Entrenchment has more modding versatility.

Here's a basic rundown- the vanilla races are replaced with somewhat-couterpart like races. Many fighter types rescripted as frigates, to allow long-range fighter operation. Some frigates/cruisers/capitals removed, as fighter-frigates (my term, get ur own) are now attackable by any weapon and are also the primary ship type to be employed. Most ship types would remain. Waystations&Outposts replace Starbases; WSs&OPs are weaker but the SB count will be altered so that different GWs can accomodate different #s of SBs.

Waystation vs. Outpost- Waystations are unarmed, and invulnerable. They serve anyone and everyone. I may introduce a researchable tech to allow them to be captured (unlikely). Outposts are faction-specific, and are of different types.

The factions- Mercenary Trading Guild (MTG), System Defense Navy (SDN), Vasari Remnant Mercenaries (VRM), and one based on the Advent I haven't thought of yet.

A lot of what I want to do with this mod would make it a bit more role-play oriented, but still have strategic aspect. There would also be few colonizable planets. Civil Outposts can be upgraded to house populations.

Anyways, what are some ideas that you have, or comments/questions,  or even criticisms you have. I am not trying to make Sins an RPG or a free-form game, just try and add some elements from the latter to the former.

ya ive tryed the same with some success i tryed making it more like eve online but its just got plain boring just being by your self with like 15 other race were we never meet up cuz each of us had one ship for battle, colonisation and a few scouts . LOL but i was hhappy being able to do  i found the metal and crytal seeling for money idea was okay cuz erning money tru taxes is not very common in eve online more like mining is the comon wealth in eve. 

Anyhow good ideas i like th neutral outpost and waystations ideas remind of the starbase in eve online.

that's true akkan. There wouldn't be 15 other races though (lol), and there would be more than one ship per player.

Some notes on it- Each race would be able to research advanced upgrades (abilities/weapons) for their ships. Some trends that would hold true however-

Merc vs. Mil- a comparison of mercenary & dedicated military stats-

Mercenary ships would tend to have more hull, armor, and shield points; their researchable abilities would also be unique in that they would be more versatile in use. Military ships have more damage, and higher shield mitigation factors (as well as a higher mitigation build-up); however they don't have the versatility/utility of the mercenary craft.

Standard warships would be pricier, but a bit tougher; however all standard ships attacks would be ANTIMEDIUM or higher (ANTIHEAVY, ANTIVERYHEAVY, ANTIMODULE; possibly CAPITALSHIP), but would be tweaked to do little damage to VeryLight/Light armor. it's also possible, with Entrenchment, to have multiple attack types through researches. This would allow a fighter type to have different weapon types.

Also, Siege and Battleship analog-caps wouldn't be in the mod. Colony/Support caps at start, with Carrier caps being a tier 5/6 researchable for SOME races. The MTG doesn't have carrier caps, but they do have more versatile&toughter spacecraft that can duke it out fairly well.

Also, any tips on making it so that there aren't HWs?

hey, akkan, do you still have the mod you did where you made it similar to EVE Online? If so, could you post it for D/L? I'd like to try it out.
