Last person to post wins, unless they are a moderator or admin.

Basically, this game is played so that the last person who post wins. What do they win? The ThreadKiller's Achievement; The honor of being the last person to post by virtue of the content of their post. However, moderators, admins, and anyone else who has the ability to lock the thread are disqualified from winning the ThreadKiller's Achievement, if they win by locking. If the thread is won by method of locking, the "winner" gains the Achievement Of Reprehensible Epic Lameness.

:)  Thank you for the nice karma!  :)  Happy Thanksgiving to you too!!

On a side note, i was looking at AI War recently, looks very interesting, though probably a bit over my head as far as strategic play, but still interesting. Something occurred to me though watching several of the videos, I wonder if some of the 'memory' load comes from the rotating star and planets. In AI War they are static, a painted backdrop against which the battles are fought. I wondered if Sins did something similar, if the fan base would have a fit, or if it meant a faster game experience (FPS wise) and smoother play if they would object?

Just a question, what do you think?

I also thought perhaps, lower resolution graphics, perhaps not so heavily detailed, or perhaps not as big? Could one remove the shimmer effect (i forget what that is called) and make the ship or planet / star graphics smaller? Or load smoother?

Just some ideas.

Thanks for listening.

Its been a nice relaxing three days, now back to work and school tomorrow,  :(  Haha, real life!  :)

:)  Another thought, perhaps silly, but what does anyone think about auto-updating research? I mean, that it wouldn't require player input or click-throughs, as long as funds were available (in a build que account?) that the game engine would simply run through tier after tier, unless it were possible to select the desired groups, such as shielding, or hostile techs then the planetary techs, then... something else. Which would get the ball rolling so to speak.

:)

Just an idea,

I think the fanbase would be best served if the models became a backdrop based on a lower setting or separate button, something which allowed for the decision. Those that do more single playing would have their 3-D models and MP would have speed.

I think the settings do a pretty good job of bringing down the graphics as is, although I could see a dropping of polys working for the lowest setting.

The shimmer? Do you mean the bloom? If so, you can turn that off. If you mean the glow of the stars, I would say incorporate that into the lowest settings.

To get the graphics to load smoother I would say one of two things would be necessary. Either the player to reduce the settings BEFORE starting a game OR for the game to load only necessary elements, an idea I always thought sounded better.

Auto-updating research doesn't sound bad, especially for late game. I think the current setup isn't bad, although it does take a bulk of resources up front. If they either made the research take resources as it engages OR gave you a categorically based system that ran up the tree systematically, it could work.

Just my thoughts. Probably more work for the devs than most would think reasonable.

And yes, my three days, on and off the boards, were freaking sweet.

:)  Thank you Draak,  :)

Another thought while i was on steam, saw a blurb for Alien Swarm, Oh My!!  Looks a lot like the Alien Movies, but i had a thought that it might be something hectic and devastating and fast & furious so to speak if it were incorporated into a story arc?

Scouting ships come across a crashed alien ship on an asteroid? Or Planet and discover... Horribly fast and lots and lots of yucky aliens, with like no manners at all.  :)

Anyway, just thought it could be small and contained, either in DS or in Trader Space and be a lot of fun, or crazy, or whatever.  :)

Anyone have any thoughts?

p.s. too many vitamins today, crazy ideas coming right and left.  :)

That idea is very much the aliens story. I think you should maybe see if there is an inspirational vein you could tap in there to make it more original and tap into the lore more. Make it tie in perhaps with one of the planetary traits, such as large carnivores or whatever. I'm sure the DS wiki has them listed.

And as for the other story arc you've considered, you can also look into the replicators from Stargate: SG1. There are some similarities there in which you might find a thread of inspiration. Again, if you could look at Vasari tech or such a thing, then you could find a way to create a solid connection with the pre-existing lore.

And who knows, you could become the master of the short character arcs in this lore, jumping from one character to another, not necessarily having them die, but moving focus from one to the next while having the others pop by in the background.

:)   Thank you for the nice compliment!  :)

I will have to look at the wiki's, that is a wonderful idea.  :)

The way i had it originally envisioned was:

After boarding the dark and dank alien vessel, we were captured, the aliens were nothing but mouths and claws, and forced us to a dusty and unwashed dinner table where we were forced to view salads, with nothing but lettuce and tomato and not a crouton in sight! In addition, there were chipped and grimy plates of venison, barely cooked with nothing on the side except plain ketchup!! It was HORRIBLE!!  I screamed when i saw there were NO utensils at all!!

None!

Were we to eat this barbaric spread with nothing but our fingers then?

I fainted!!

Thank goodness for the dark of unconsciousness!

:)

p.s.  thank you for the references, will have to see about the Stargate and the Online Wiki.    :)

AI War? Are you refering to the Total War series?

Okay, correction: You'll be the lore known for humorous tales akin to Alice in Wonderland on acid. :)

Yes, go do some research. Try not to slip on the ketchup.
