Well, he actually had 3 worlds, I just skipped two of them because under any normal circumstances, he could not have stopped my fleet from taking his home planet. Basically, the game was over, his fleet was dwarfed by mine, and he couldn't have stopped me from destroying his entire fleet then capturing his home.
Except that I didn't know Starbases could self-destruct (because I don't play TEC and it had never happened to me before). As soon as I warped in, he self-destructed my massive fleet and the problem was that I had increased my upkeep to like 40% to be able to have so many guys. Also, I hardly upgraded my economy at all that game, relying on my military to simply overpower his and slowly conquer his planets one by one.
When my entire force was destroyed, his 8 trade ports or so between 3 planets probably matched my 8 asteroids/planets as far as resource income, especially since I had a 40% upkeep and he probably had 19%. Also, his entire force of about 10 HCs and some Carrier Cruisers was still alive and well and the only thing I had left was 2 cap ships. Now if I had had my force, the bombers would have cleaned up the HCs in no time flat, but without anything, HCs are pretty strong.
Anyway, he ended up pushing one of my asteroids (he didn't even get close to my base) and I pushed him back with what little fleet I had rebuilt. It's very possible I could have come back and won after that, but with my 40% handicap and all-in strategy, it would have been very tough. Unfortunately the game had gone on for 2 hours and I had real-life things to attend to, so I conceded.
I didn't mine losing though, because next time all I have to do is avoid the Starbase and the player won't be able to stop me. I'm REALLY glad it happened to me, otherwise I wouldn't have even known about it. Getting better is the most important thing to me, winning every game comes second.
