First off, let me just say that Rebellion is a great game. Worth the dough if you asked me. It's really no overhaul in my honest opinion, but a great game nontheless. I really like the new additions in the game. I've made great use of almost all of them and they add much more strategy to an already intense strategy game! Anyway on to the matter at hand. I know I'm not the only one to complain about this, but the corvettes are gonna need some balancing. I'm sure you guys at the studio are hard at work as I type this, but I just thought you should know that this is just one more person who thinks it needs to change. While it is a great idea, here is an example of why I think they need to be fixed up. My first online match in the beta, it was me and three other blokes playing. I did my usual build up of a few frigates and a capital ship to lead them. I captured a few planets from the pirates and claimed them for resources and defense positions. It is now about 10-15 minutes in the game and I feel pretty good about my setup. I'm building more and more ships as my supply cap can hold. Next thing I know, one of the players gets wiped out. Uhh what? He didn't disconnect, rage-quit, or anything like that, he straight up got erradicated of the face of his own planet. About 5 minutes later, the other player gets wiped out too! Pah! Must be new to this game. Perhaps their defences were too poor? Good thing I'm a loyalist and I excel at defences. Quite the turtle if I do say so myself! Next thing I know, one of my forward planets is getting completely slammed by 50 or so of those flying basterds and everything gets destroyed in minutes. He moves on to my next planet, and by this time I've tried to counter his attacks with my own fleet of corvettes. Take that! Doesn't taste so good when you're the one being fed the medicine huh!? And suddenly.. just when I thought I had a sliver of hope left for myself, another 30 vettes come in for the kill. R-R-R-RAGEQUIT! So, as I said, I'm sure you guys have taken all this into consideration. But if you'll have me, I do have some suggestions. I'll go from the TEC Loyalist side since I've played with them mostly anyway. Instead of a 100 credit, 10 metal, 5 crystal and 2 supply cost. Why not rack up the cost by about 300%, since they are rather advanced for what they can do, and add +1 supply cost, and perhaps add +75 hp's and +50 sp's and +1 armor. That way if people really want them, they'll have to really pay for them. They'll be a little bit tougher to kill, and maybe even push their research back a bit so people will have to push research in order to start building them in the first place. I mean, for something that is virtually anti-Titan, you sure do get it rather early on in the game. I play versus computers most of the time, and even on Hard, they don't really make use of corvettes. I didn't even know they were good against Titans until I started reading through some posts.
Okay so that's my thoughts on that. Feel free to contact me and suggest more refined resource costs and supply costs if you have the time. I know you guys are busy. That was just an off the top of my head estimate at what would somewhat balance the playing field a bit. And honestly, even if you just left the cost of the unit itself the same, and instead pushed the research back, and made it SUPER expensive to research them, that would work just fine too. That way people aren't spamming the living hell out of them 10-15 minutes into a match. Know what I'm sayin'?
Onto the second and final matter! This is not a fix, but rather an addition that I'm sure is not the only time it's been mentioned. A tactical pause in Offline Skirmishing. I would LOVE to be able to pause the game and review everything in my empire, and even issue orders, all to have it carried out when I resume from tactical pause. Obviously this won't be necessary in multi-player, but let's give a bone to us who don't always want to play against each other, and instead want a more synthetic opponent, even a cheating one. That, I think, is where the tactical pause will shine the most. I would be more inclined to play a Viscous opponent if I had some way of pausing the game to issue orders or to review the battlefield so I can calculate my next move.
Anyway, that's all I have for now, I really hope you guys take this into consideration. I'll try to come up with more stuff in the mean time. until then, CHEERS!
*update* I know I just posted this thing. But! I had a thought. Again, just a way of showing some love to the skirmishers, and hey, maybe even the online players if you're feeling freaky, a way to disable certain unit types in the game. Super weapons and titans, would be a start. Or perhaps a way to shut off corvettes! Hahaha just kidding. Assuming you guys do balance them out more, there will be no need to add that. But yeah just a thought. I know it may seem redundant and like "dude the point of this game was to introduce Titans" well that may be true, but occasionally one might just wanna rush some poor soul with a fleet full of frigs and cruisers with some capital ships thrown in for flavor. With no massive Titans that could basically tip the scale of the game tremendously. You know? Just a thought! Cheers guys!
