Sins is single-threaded so having a multicore PC will not help.
devs had said repeatably that it will not happen.
I belive it would require completely rebuilding the game engine... so... expect it for SINS 2. nothing sooner.
And, honestly. your wrong. As galaxy sizes get bigger, the quantity of stupid dumb shit goes up. I dont want to have upgrade the logistic slots 50 times, and build 200 trade ports. not to mention, you have a severe fleet supply limit... which, means that due to the way stackings and repair, and everything works... if everything is maxed out, you cant realy split up your fleet into more than 2 main forces, and still be effective in battle... too many planets and not enough choke points means that the game devolves into fleets playing round robin, where both fleets never battle eachother, instead a cycle of bombing, and annoyng rebuilding. the huge multistar is about (maybe even past) the limit of the size of the game as far as gameplay is concerned.
I do think that limiting the star's phase lanes to certain other stars, instead of every star on the map would help this problem.
AFAIK, the beta doesn't really support multi-core CPUs, but the release will do a better job of it
I don't believe there's a shortcut to check FPS
The game does make some use of a second core, but reports vary wildly on how much so.
There won't be any additional support for multicore processors. Adding that kind of support into the engine would take years and is far outside the scope of Rebellion. Having a multicore processor should still help, however, because the OS will offload non-game tasks to the other cores.
lol yeah, when playing online yesterday, I got into a four-way battle of combined aligned fleets. Each player had 100-150 ships plus 40-200 squads of SC (wrath built a lot of Sovas) and my quad core was handling the thing just fine. Wrath's processor was very unhappy with us though lol.
Quad cores are nice
Quoting TFL BigBANGtheory,
No it won't use 4 cores its not Crysis in space, but it IS the best space RTS/4x game money can buy.
SoaSE doesn't need 4 cores, use ur central heating system instead
I should point out that one reason to specify dual / quad core is because a 2 GHz dual core CPU will generally destroy the most common single-core CPUs (i. e. a P4).
It does not even come close to using two on my system at highest settings and 2550 res it only uses a little over 1.30 cores. I would love for it to use all of them. As it stands now i can spin a full battle with lots of ship so fast I cant see anything that is how fluid it is.
"sigh"
Right now only texture loading is multi-threaded.
