Hello,
I have been playing on a new immense map on Galciv2 and I must say; One thing that bugs me is when I can just cross most or even a 1/4 of the map without having to use star bases eventually. There is really not a feeling of having a ,"deep space nine", or any real logistical importance. For me It seems to kill the point of playing excessively large maps. It seems to kill the experience of deep space exploration and the risks and resources involved to protect and support the star base that makes it possible getting to the delta quadrant from the alpha per-say.
On one side it simplifies the micromanagement and speed of the game when logistics scales to the map but on the other it makes the map not seem as big.
I would be so happy to be able to turn logistic map scaling off or on.
What do you guys think? Would you like this option for even longer epic games like the ability to change tech speed?
To be clear on what I mean by logistics is not fleet size in which should be called command ability but literally logistics or better put, ship range.
MILITARY : The organization of moving, housing, and supplying troops and equipment.
I imagine the AI would have to tweaked to make star bases to expand and protect accordingly when the option is changed so I would like to bring this up now while the AI is still being compiled.
Edit Update-->
Three or four dev streams ago when they were talking about the insane map size and logistic ship turns. Stardock did say they would scale the logistics depending on map size like they did in GalCivII.
That is why I'm petitioning this concern. On gal civ 2 I only have one advanced life support and I can go 6 squares of the 22 before my range limit on the immense map. That means all I need is only 3-4 star bases or a couple planets to get to one end or the other. That's a pretty small investment for such a large map.
I did try a tiny map and I can cross the whole thing in one tech upgrade or one star base so yes it doesn't seem to be scaled to map size. Misinterpretation? Yes but what if I want to play a tiny or medium map and not be able to just explore the whole galaxy right away?
Some could say put stars and planets on rare for the insane map,,, well how are ya gonna fit 100 opponents with minor races and colonize anything? This is were the problem arises on the flip side.
Lets say someone has a poor computer and cannot handle a insane map but wants to slow things down as much and possible by reducing how range works on a smaller map to get more involved. They are kinda stuck in a box and any higher range , "life support", research is just a waste with no scaling option.
If they do the range like in GalCivII the insane map may look huge until you start moving around and teching up then you realize you want the map to seem even bigger. Also, the small maps just may be too small for some because the range tech quickly negates any logistic strategy.
So to rephrase my question: Would you guys like an option that says hey would you like ship range to be true or scaled to map size?
Even the option like Life support range , Tiny Small Med Standard
