i am currently in strategy rpg heaven - my desktop is littered with great games. 2 that i frequent more often are legendary heroes and sorcerer king. sometimes even going from one to the other. when i play legendary heroes i am constantly pushing the first few number keys to change to the camera angle that best suits the strategic decision i am making or to get a better view of the scene. ill return to angle 4 or 5 the most as i find a top down view where up equals north best facilitates determining distances and strategic thinking, which allows me to play more quickly and efficiently. i may change camera angles a few times a turn.
when i play sorcerer king i also am constantly pushing the first few number keys to change to the camera angle that best suits the strategic decision i am making, but to my continual surprise, they dont do anything. sure i can rotate the camera, but this is nowhere near as efficient as swapping between a few presets. the fact that i cant just hit a button to switch to a top down view in sorcerer king actually irks me to such a degree that i find myself not wanting to launch the game when the legendary heroes icon is right next to it taunting me with a similar, but more pleasurable experience, simply because of this one functionality*. its massive. please sd. camera presets.
*and on this note - at the moment it feels like the sorcerer king and the fallen enchantress are competing for my attention, and i have a hunch that sk's less than optimal sales is a product of most people feeling the same way. both are fantasy 4x games that play and feel similar, one looks better, the other has more toys. which should i buy, which should i play?
this does not have to be the case though, these games could be a highly compatible couple that compliment each other very well in one, big, happy elemental family. elemental: fallen enchantress is a 4x strategy game, elemental: sorcerer king is a 4x rpg. they are both part of the elemental story, (and have the same camera preset hot-keys ). give your loyal, happy, paying customers a reason to buy the new game. spell out for your new customers how the two games are related, which may be better suited for them, and why they might want both. trying to distinguish sk from his obvious elemental roots instead of embracing them as his and the enchantresses progenitor only serves to sever him from his true royal heritage. every review mentions it.
"its not how hard you fall, but how you pick yourself up again" applies so well not just with the theme of sk, but with the history behind the elemental brand. own it!
then marry the enchantress and the king with a new engine and make the most awesome lil elemental baby you can.
dynasties.
and camera presets, please.. dont forget those!
thank you!
