(Cross posting this from Steam forums since not everyone visits them as often)
Curious to hear everyone's thoughts on how game balance is and design differences are at this stage with the 2 factions.
What I've found so far with Substrate -
Substrate bombers are extremely potent. If I remember the numbers right, they do twice the dps of the PHC bombers
Their air-to-air fighters also function as gunships and hit ground targets
They have no artillery units but have a kind of drone catapult artillery structure.
They lack some anti-dreadnought capabilities. They have no Nemesis equivalent or sentinel turret equivalent. The Mauler seems like it may be useful if it can actually get close to use its guns - they say "short range and good vs. large units" or something to that effect.
Their anti-dreadnought dreadnought seems underpowered compared to PHC equivalent - it seems to not fire its main gun sometimes. When fighting vs frigates, it performs extremely poorly - only its 4 ion cannons fire and only then if it can broadside them - if frigates sit in front or behind it, it doesnt shoot them at all until you move it.
They have less health but have shields, relying on the shield/energy replenishing structure they can build.
The Avatar call-in unit is very strong as it can build, capture behind the lines, and dish out enough damage to capture points by itself.
Drone call in unit and drones from their T2 and dread units seem to be able to fight air and ground targets. I can't recall right now if these drone building units have guns themselves or not. Other than more health, what does the dread variation bring to the table over the T2 version?
The Substrate would be cool with a unit that can re-program, take control of enemy units - seems to fit their style.
