Kol as too... sissy.

its a wierd complaint, but I think the Kol looks too weapon-deprived to be the TEC's forward battleship.

for instance, the forward 4 pylons that are meant to be cannons... they seem like the feelers of a bug rather than the massive, powerful, forward ion cannons of the KOL BATTLESHIP!
amongst other things it just seems like the Kol has no weapons, when in truth its the most powerful single ship in the game.

I have the same opinion. It looks to sedate for a ship-of-the-line platform. It should have a more manly presence for a lack of better words.

According to the storyline, the TEC's ships aren't supposed to be bristling with guns. They are traders, not warriors. The Kol is probably some retro-fitted model of a civilian trade ship or something.

isnt the kol the only fullon, no conversion battleship?
and even if it isnt. thats still no excuse to have its most powerful weapon be bumps on the end of 4 poles.

The KOL was the TEC's only battleship built from the ground up for WAR!!!!!!!!!

It needs something , just not sure what.....

I sorta like it all sleek and smaller than the other capital ships.

exactly, the royal TEC's grand battleship of the ARMADA!
should not be small or sleek, it should be bulky, huge, bristling with cannons!

Bigger doesn't always mean better.......

yes, yes it does.

bigger = more armor, more guns, bigger guns and crew

Try build this Freedom Ship, and better picture of it Wikipedia Picture. It is slant to become the world's largest ship. Grant it is an ocean going vessel however several people feel it is too much big/difficult IMO.

I was about to say that the size of the ship would cause massive stress fractures and catastrophic failure unless engineered differently. however
present supertankers cannot be made larger because of the enormous stresses imposed on hulls by hogging and sagging in heavy seas

wiki beat me to it.

I was wondering the same thing.

I wonder how much has already been invested in this.

Not enough apparently. I remember when this story first went public back in the late mid 90's. However you have to give him credit for plugging along.

I always wonder what rogue waves and drop swells during a major storm would do to such a slow moving behemoth.

I was worried about large storms too, but apparently it stay near port, plus the way their voyage spans out they pass through the regions of the world when they are at their best in weather.

If there is an undersea earthquake being close to the cost is a real bad thing. Moreover with such a slow speed they could never outrun a weather front.

The Kol has guns all over the place (forward and side batteries). It devastates in combat, especially once leveled up some. Is it the look of the ship you guys don't like or what?
I think he meant how intimating(like being a smaller guy looking up to a bigger guy) it look so yes.
@Yar - yeah. I would also say it is not that I dont "like" it so much as it looks wimpy for the exact reason you stated.

What I'm about to state is purely personal preference and in no way should be considered a legitimate criticism of the faction. It is merely an iconoclastic perception.

Whit that said, it as well as the other ships (to a lessor degree) dont give a feeling of highly successful capitalists to me. A good example of this innate feeling is the feeling one gets from the skyscrapers one finds in all the major finical cities in the world (where such buildings can be built). When you look around you see power, wealth, influence and other things. Another example is when one walks into a 5 star hotel you get the impression opulence, refinement and elegance. All these things are visually suggestive of the type of people whom one would expect to find in those environments.

The current style employed for the Tec just does not give me any such sense(s) given what the lore suggests for what its worth. That is not to suggest that you guys are planning on doing a StarCraft thing and publishing books and plastic models and miniatures and what not regarding the franchise once established. But if you were...

bleh, i personally think its cool when the most powerful ship is actually significantly smaller than some of the others...

oh, its more than powerful enough for me. its just that it looks kindof...
thin? I just expect the central pillar of the armada to be slightly more, meaty.

its just something to consider if your designers have free time, its not a huge issue.
like being a smaller guy looking up to a bigger guy

it does have that sort of "I'm small, but I can beat you, bitch" feel to it. doesnt it?

I dont know if that was the point...
but I kindof like it, maybe TEC in SoaSE II?

Its the Vasari who get huge super ships, just look at the pics.

The TEC have to conserve more since they are caught of guard and have to rebuild thing or refit them. The Vasari already had ancient ships that remain from the time they had the infastructure of a quarter of the galaxy building them.

The KOL Battleship is one of oldest models in the beta. You can expect multiple revisions of this ship before release. The final size is unlikely to rival that of the Sova or the Akkan, however it's appearance will be 'battle hungry'.

I just soiled myself due to the excitement!

I'm thinking that it could have a couple large turrets. Perhapse something that resembles the Liberty Battleship Missouri in "Freelancer" (sorry, that's the closest example that I could think of, unless anyone saw the Concordia-class Cap Ship out of the "Wing Commander" movie, which should have been ? way, way better than it was). If given the appropriate boxy/industrial look, I think it would still look TECish. Please, if you agree or disagree, I'd like to hear everyone's opinion. Anyone?

Cool! I already have visions of a Space Marine style ala W40k.

does an industrial superpower ever have to conserve?
i didnt think so. I think you're confusing your races

YAY!!!

the akkan I can understand, a whole planetsworth of people etc, but the sova (the support ship, correct?) that doesnt make as much sense to me.
