Multi, my point wasn't that it would inevitably lead to the situation I described, just that there would be loopholes (of which that was an extreme example) which probably shouldn't be allowed.

You can't order by pay-pal until Beta 3 is released, probably sometime next week.
BTW, just to double check -- does anyone need for me to explain why that would be a horrible idea?
Sorry, you managed to hit a button there. That particular issue is one that has irked me for years, don't even ask me why. Probably something to do with my deep and abiding desire for fairness. Equal rights is almost as big a deal to me as child abuse (AKA: either one can produce tunnel vision if touched on in discussion, and if seen in real life out and out rage).
Problem is that its just to much for the layman to understand. 99.9% of people on this planet just don't get the idea of orbital mechanics -- alas -- and the idea of acceleration being more important than speed? Forget it. Sure, it gives lots of the information on tactics / strategy, but no way to make a game out of it.
A good series of books to read if you're interested in space battles like what they're trying to do with sins would be the David Webber books... The Honor Harrington series has a lot of really detailed space battles where they talk about orbits and various freefall weapons at extreme range. Great series period, but not really something that could ever be turned into a game.
Or to save processing power and increase the appeal of command cruisers, you could strip ships of its current AI and have that AI restored in presence of command cruisers. No.
I assure, my fondness for the ladies has nothing to do with my society or parents. Yeah, but most people's homophobic tendencies do. (Homophobic to include their own inability to admit that they might be attracted to another guy, even if its just "get off" with one another. God forbid they should actually be even the slightest bit "bi"!) Lets not go there though.
It is one of the big reasons I get upset when I talk to americans that don't understand simple concepts like the right to bare arms. Go re-read the amendment. Its clearly worded to refer to well regulated militia , not common Joe Gun-happy. If you disagree, find me one -- just one! -- time when the supreme court has struck down a gun control law on the basis of that amendment. Please.
I don't see why orbits would screw up your constellation of planets? Those planets wouldn't change position noticeably even if you played for days. After all each one represents a solar system. ... Gee, so you want the star systems to orbit around each other, but the planets inside them aren't orbiting?
sin.sdc sounds like the data file I downloaded -- I believe its an archive file that decompresses.
Wait, is a phase lane a physical object in the game? Like something orbiting the planet? Or is it just an unmarked part of the gravity well your ships will have to go to warp to a different system? Phase lanes are graphically represented as lines between planets, representing the "allowed" stellar travel routes between planets (and the star) in a system. Not if you can seamlessly zoom out of any system t
Which leads on to something I forgot to point out, that if we enforce democracy on them against their own free will, it kinda defeats the purpose.
It would be more realistic and I don't see why it would be unplayable at all. Explain why changing things would make it unplayable. The devs early builds had it, and it didn't work. It wasn't fun. What do phase lanes have to do with orbits at all? Simple, really. The display issue becomes abominable really quickly -- planets with phase lanes could end up on the other end of the system from ea
Theres not such things as a genuine memorial effort, everything is about money. And that's all I need to prove you wrong -- look at my high school (where I was involved in genuine memorial efforts). Look at any number of websites that have created such montages with no fiscal incentive. Fact is, its a genuine memorial effort. Back to the radio company... Sure, the company end of it gains a fair bit, but the channel in question really is qu
The fleet support number at the bottem is wrong, i dont have that many frigats or total ships in any way. Thats not the biggest problem, IMO -- look at where that pirate hideout is placed! Right on the phase-lane between that asteroid and the sun! (That type of "display" issue is really, really bad)
Not if the max is 16 capships and that you still need the cap points to support them. Did they release a patch I haven't seen? As things stand, you need capitol crews (given by research) and fleet points (given by owning planets). You're suggesting that you remove the need for fleet points for capitol ships leaving them dependent on capitol crews only. And since those scale with research (in current patch, at least) its theor
If they change it so that the capitol points are based on buildings, instead of research, that makes sense. But if its still based on research you'd end up with a situation wherein an empire could potentially support more capitol ships than frigates and cruisers. That strikes me as being off as well.
To respect the OP in that thread, I'm creating a parallel thread in which to discuss things, rather than muddy a remembrance thread with them. Remembrance Thread Here's my latest reply: Capatalization on peoples pain and agony. We all knew what happened yet the media continued to play footage just to raise raitings. To quote the radio going beside me:<
In fact, what makes this game even unique if you remove gravity and orbits? That was like the whole draw of the game... The cross between RTS and 4X games. Even if they have (vastly) diminished the latter so far.
To continue our discussion (and any new side discusion) lets honor the OP's wishes and move them over here .
First of all, I was assuming that each religious/ethnic group would more or less be a monolithic block. I know, and acknowledged that point if you ready me again I didn't come out and say it, because I thought it could be assumed, but the basic fact is you either have to break those political "blocks" (somehow) or just go ahead and break them
but pacifists would always lose? I generally play a mix of pacifist/trading players. I build up my position, then attack. Believe me, its powerful and effective.
I do not like the idea of restricting range based on command ship presence. At all. And, that said, I do not think the command cruiser is in any way "weak" -- that shield restorative ability it has is powerful, as is the designate target one.
They only need to distroy the pji and you could sacrifice 3 or 4 frigates to accoplish that. I look forward to watching those 4 frigates die uselessly. After all, they are being pounded on by (at minimum) four gauss cannons, plus any bombers that can be spared. While all my defenses are being repaired by two repair centers. you can toggle it on and off <br
