I believe that concentrating on research is a waste of time. Just trade techs whenever possible. I set my race to have bonuses in morale, economy and diplomacy. Morale allows for higher populations, economy is obvious, and diplomacy helps with getting better deals when trading. In fact, I rarely build research centers at all and still stay in front with every tech besides weapons (because the computer values those higher than life itself). Tech trading = easy game.

These tips work on suicidal also. However, I play the humans because the computer needs all the help it can get. I find one of the biggest advantages is in tech trading. This allows you to get money and also advance in tech quite rapidly. Turning tech trading off is perhaps the biggest jump in difficulty level available. I hear so much about eyes of the univers, and I have to agree that it is great. However, I just build sensor drones and park them around my planets. The A
Your IQ does not translate to gaming genius. The idea that the AI is cheating has been pretty much laid to rest. This game can be very hard, but also very easy. I can beat it on Suicidal with greater ease that I could beat old games like Civ III on the medium levels. Keep in mind that this game has a huge amount of variables. Even when setting up the game, you can alter your racial charactaristics. I have found that these setting make all the difference in the world. Also, as stated above
For got sakes, just play on Suicidal. I started out on a medium level when I first got the game and moved up untill I lost. Turns out, it is hard to lose unless you get a horible starting position. The AI has improved a bit with 1.2 but stull, Suicidal is more than managable. With a game like this, the AI needs all the help it can get. And besides the harder the better.
Don't mean this in a bad way at all, but just fyi. "there" = look over there. "their" = it is their ship.
If SD ever went away from the open movement system I think you'd see the AIs able to overrun the player quite easilly on the cheating difficulties. Its the open movement system which allows the player to 'abuse' the AIs relative inability to coordinate its ships, especially transports. I couldn't agree more. Being a long time player of CIV III,
For some reason, it seems I can't build any defenses for my starbases (and it seems the computer isn't building them either). Therefore, no matter how heavily armed they are, they just get destroyed easy. I though that the starbase defense tech would at least enable the beginings of defense, but I am well beyond that and still I have not options when I upgrade my starbases. Can someone fill me in?
Yes! Let's add this in the next update. Shouldn't be a big hasstle to implement.
Sorry if this has been explained. I pre-ordered the game for hard copy. Credit card shows billed. No delivery truck, no emails from stardock. Sales and costomer support don't respond. What am I to do?
NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4600 Ok, besides the anti-aliasing. Yes or No?
I'd like to change that to 100% of the people on this forum don't know who I am! Therefore, I couldn't have possibly influenced the results of the poll with the exception of my own vote. It isn't a conspiracy Misophist! In fact, you had to be prompted to go there yourself. If you didn't wish to go to the poll because of the title, then I am sure you are not the only one. And statistically speaking, I bet 90% of those who didn't vote also are in favor of no tactical. Oh ya, and th
I can see how the surrenders make sense. France didn't surrender to England, and they were allies. Typically you surrender to the one that has got your ass in a sling. I just hope that the AI really waits till there is no hope before surrendering. Looks great so far, can't wait to play myself. One other thing. I guess I don't understand the whole manufacture/shipping time. How is it possible to implement changes this close to the release date? Is it just going to be an patch av
I will make a race called the cartoons. Most of the time, they will just make everyone laugh. The other races will be too overcome with halarity to attact me. But then when it is least suspected, I will make a bad cartoon. Then the universe will be in for it.
After reading and participating in numerous threads about tactical combat, I really have to wonder what most people want. Please don't discuss anything here, just simply state your oppinion. Should GCII continue to be CIV in space? Or, should it be modified to become similar to RTW where you have the option to personally control every battle. Again, no discussion because I doubt it really has any effect on what the game will become. And just post once. My vote is to keep it the w
Lord Doom, are you trying to make this thread a flame war against Americans? You need cheap opportunities to make your political jabs? Making generalizations about Americans isn't necessary in this thread, or any on this forum for that matter. Perhaps it is you that can't read because you just brag about your knowledge of history, but miss the point. Basically you are saying that... Leaders in the past were often in charge of tactical decissions, and therefore should be in charge
First off, build orders (govenor AI's) and tactical battles are not even remotely similar. Here is a test Citizen Lightzy. Start Rome Total war. Play one game by manually fighting every battle. Now, "turn off" the tactical battles and play a new game. The difference is incredible. Therefore, those who chose not to fight the battles would be rated far lower than amatures who can't get enough of the same glorious victory they had just two minutes ago. GC1 used the metaverse, and
So many games with tactical battles. So few games like CiV and GC, that reject them completely. Try to understand that if you love tactical battles, and you truly feel that the computer is good enough (it's not) then go play one of the countless games with tactical battles available. Spend hours marveling at your brilliance as you crush the helpless enemy time and time again. But please, this game is not for tactical battles. If it were included, it would ruin the game for all those who rea
If you want tactical battles, go play a different game. Don't ruin this one.
They eat and talk through their ass.
It is essentially along the same lines as CIV. No one complained about randomeness there, and I can't see how every game would be the same here either.
On this time scale, cosmic events will almost certainly not occure. On this time scale, a recession will almost certainly last most the game.
I know, but I want the box with the teck tree and "extra stuff". Guess I am kinda old fasioned. And I was thinking about getting it from a store, but it was cheaper so I didn't think it would come with the extra stuff. Thanks for your response.
I am planning on getting a preorder copy of this game. I am also planning on moving real soon, so I only feel comfortable using a PO box for my shiping address. However, in the past I have had problems sending to PO boxes. Does anyone know who will ship this product, and if they will ship to a PO box? Thanks
To argue that an advanced civilization would invest so much time, money and technology into such a demonic idea such as genocide it downright absurd. Even the Dregin didn't exterminate the Torians accoding to the story. FYI: WWII which is often considered the largest man made calamity in world history managed to kill approxamately 50 million people including military and civilian deaths. That is a mear 5% of one billion over the course of about six years. Much of the tactics in WWII were de
I remember in GC I, you could randomise the different computer races so that perhaps the dregin are not evil or the alterians are etc. I am guessing that in this game, this can be randomised too? And how would this effect the racial bonuses and any kind of built in attitude to another race? Just a quriosity.
