So what is Ironclad actually doing right now? I'm sure patches for SoaSE aren't keeping them that busy.
8500 Mhz ? Please tell me what sort of cooling you use ! [e digicons]:omg:[/e]
You guys are late : it was already bought by Warner Brothers . ;)
I think the correct install order is : - install Sins - update Sins to latest version - install Entrenchment - update Entrenchment to latest version
For Vista, it's [system drive]:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire .
to the OP, but my reason is simply because I use XP as my gaming OS, XP installs IE6 as default, I have no desire to use the inbuilt browser so I shouldn't need to upgrade IE simply because I ought to.
If you are using a pre-SP2 cd to install Windows XP, then right after install, you have IE6. However, if you have an active internet connection and let it update itself normally, it will, by default, install IE7 through Windows Update.</p
On my computer (Vista), it's C:\Users\MYUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire
Ok, despite my repeated efforts, I suck at Sins. Against hard AIs, I managed to win a 2vs3 once, and didn't reproduce the feat yet. I usually get crushed. Well, it's a war of attrition really. At some point, the comps just out-economy me, and I realize that this could go on for 2 hours but I'd be the loser at the end. I stop expanding, I just build more and more ships, at some point I'm just rebuilding lost ships, and at some point I'm on the decline. There's no escape, I'm just more and more
A 2vs2vs2vs2vs2 (that's 10 players) I did and won this afternoon. I was allied with red who was very strong. I also did fairly well. At some point my ally tells me I should retreat in a difficult battle. My Marza has just turned level 6, so I fire up missile barrage and destroy every lrm of my adversary ! From then on, I dominate easily.
I'd love to know the answer to that question too, if there is one.
I love that kind of tech demo video with phat electro beats. It reminds me of the Black Mesa Source Teaser trailer. I wish I knew how to do that.
Uh... you should play Baldur's Gate 2 one of these days. Try out Viconia, Aerie... woof woof ! [e digicons]:dog:[/e]
Battle 12 ? It's nice but not enough development imo. My favorites are Upbeat 2 and TEC 2.
I was monitoring my system resources and my processor was never above 50% and my RAM was nowhere near jam packed with Sins goodness.
In fact, with a Q6600, your processor could be at 25% and still be bottlenecking Sins. As far as I know, Sins, like most games, only uses one core, maybe it threads some purely graphical-related operations like loading textures, but all the business logic seems to be single-thread as you won't see Sins splitting a
Gotta love Advent's visual style. [e digicons][/e]
2 gig of ram is very low... specially with Vista eating almost 1 gb for running with ease...
It's not very low. It's the officially recommended amount of RAM for this game, on Vista. It's also what most people have in their computer. Anyway only about 10% of people run 64-bit Windows so it's not like they designed the game to only run well on systems with above 3GB of ram.
@bhereg : if you're kicked back to the desktop, that's a game crash, it's another issue completely, and a much more serious one. If the game always crash there might be a problem with your computer, because it's quite stable for me and most players. Also, my CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo, so I think the lag issue has nothing to do with what company designed the CPU. My computer is up-to-date and it can run any game at the performance I would expect from it. Not Sins. Well, as I said I ne

There are a lot of hardware requirements for Sins : - A working electrical outlet - A fully functional computer, including : - A directX 9.0c compatible video card wit
This is great ! And you know what would be even greater ? A replay ! [e digicons]O:)[/e]
Yesterday night there were about 180 active games of vanilla Sins and about 65 of Entrenchment IIRC. So my somewhat informed guess is that the majority is still playing vanilla Sins. But you can expect that to change gradually, just like today most people play Starcraft Broodwar or Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne.
What is it then?
It's Sins of a Solar Empire being greedy with CPU time, that's the only way I can explain it. Either it has problems maintaining a large, fluctuating number of ships in memory, or updating AI logic for numerous player once the game has attained a certain degree of complexity... I don't know. But it's out of the control of the player.
The player needs to SURRENDER not QUIT to prevent an AI taking over!!! But alot of ppl won't do that as they don't want the defeat on their record
To be honest, I didn't know the difference. I've always clicked "quit" regardless of the outcome of the game. I've indeed lost more games than is indicated by my record. Again, that's pretty stupid. A player leaving the game has, by definition, resigned. It's like that in St

My problem is, about 100 times a game, while right clicking to give an order to a unit, I also slightly twist the camera (which also uses a right click - go figure). I HATE THAT.
Me too. A "reset camera" key is something I've been looking for since my first game of Sins. Also, I wish rotating the camera would be assigned to middle click. Right now middle click pans the camer
