We will still be balancing/fixing this but feel free to play with the culture values as you like. They are easily edited with notepad. The file you want to open is GameInfo/Gameplay.constants. This is very helpful, thanks! I was previously unaware of it. Another thing I was wondering about--Can certain actions decrease a faction's cultural influence? For example, destroying just one of their broadcast ce

Yeah, once a faction is completely wiped out, it probably shouldn't still have a cultural influence. Also, switching shouldn't be instantaneous with newly colonized worlds. What I'd suggest is a formula like Switch Time = 1000/Enemy Culture. The 1000 number could be tweaked (not sure what the range of numbers representing culture is). Might also be good to allow the player to change that number, either in a file or directly through the game's options. That way somebody who doesn't w
I like how the ships all have a different primary purpose and there is no one type of really powerful ship that's good at everything. It's good that even the powerful cap ships are vulnerable to certain types of attack (like bombers). I also like all the customization options that the game already has. I'd love to see even more, especially as far as the map goes. Maybe let the user define the general "friendliness" of the planets' environment? A harsh environment could consist of mo
Sure, no problem. The shift thing didn't work, but one thing I found that seems to always work is to save and reload the game. By the way, the same issue also affects how zooming in on an object using ctrl+click works. When the problem is in effect, zooming in with ctrl+click places the camera a lot farther away from the object than the "normal" mode.
>> Does it feel like the scroll 'slips' and you zoom in extremely close all of a sudden? Yes, I'd say that's a very accurate description. >> Was the camera plane almost level when you zoomed in? Sorry, I don't recall... I think I saw it happen when the camera plane was not level, but I am not sure about this. It also seemed to affect camera rotation speed. >> Can you correct the speed by pressing the shift button? I will try this tomorrow. Usually,
I guess there is a chance that this is the same problem as I'm seeing, but I don't thinks so. The overall performance of the game on my system has been great so far. I haven't seen any significant delays/lag of any kind yet. Besides, during the fast scroll "mode", even the slightest quick tap of the arrow key would send the camera flying way too far, and this would happen immediately upon the key press (no delay).
It is an Athlon64, but not x2. The graphics card is ATI x1600, operating system's Widows XP, 2GB RAM. I believe I was in Full Screen mode--visually this just means there's no Widnows "frame" around the game display area, right? If so, then yes--full screen mode.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned (I searched for "scrolling" and "scrolling speed" but didn't find any posts). Basically, the scrolling speed seems to randomly switch between reasonable and out of control-fast. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using the keyboard arrow keys or the mouse. There does not seem to be any particular event that triggers the switch, it seems to occur randomly. I just got the beta today, so haven't spent a lot of time with it yet (love it so far though).
