im thinking something like this. the ships that you build can be used by themselves... but lets say you combine 5 scout frigs and 5 flak frigs and a carrier to create a specialized megaship. technically, it would be like a very tight formation (that would look like 1 ship, and all 11 ships would act as one. the downside is you can't break them apart without penalty. the upside is, less costly ships used properly can defeat larger and more expensive ships. and i'll personally have t
what about a modular megaship? a megaship that is made up from producing smaller component ships that require very particular techs. so you could make them as large as you want (like lego's). perhaps you can even megaships that can build frigates and such (at an increased cost)

+ Multiple Research Labs are needed to reach higher tiers of research. i have a thought, what if instead of just having multiple research facilities to gain tiers of tech, you could upgrade the research centers as well. lets say, 1 normal research facility gives you 10 research capacity points, 2 would give you 20... and so on. after the research center is built, and certain tech requirements are met, it can be upgraded (like a planet) to produce more than 10
ive been going thru these forums picking out the good ones and posting them.
i think most people (and good players) will realize that doing more with less is the way to go. im sure once multiplayer comes out, most players will prefer hour long games instead of a 3 to 4 hour long game. this will help to scale down fleet sizes and lag.
iv'e updated the screenshots section of soase.com to handle image uploads. if you have any cool screenshots of the beta, upload them here. i will eventually post some of the alpha screenshots again, just to have a nice photo journal of the game progression. anyway, help out if you want.

but thats the point of the custom screen... having multiple ways of preforming the same action is not a bad thing

i just had the same error... i uninstalled and am trying to re-install, hope this works 2.4ghz / 2 gig ram / nvidia 7800 gs oc
and perhaps buttons to preset the custom galaxy to the standard galaxy sizes... so you could click SMALL then add or subtract a few planets with the slider bar.

good call deadly, i didnt know that. i'll have to give it a few test games to see what a good fun minimum is. (provided it works)
i noticed that even with the small galaxies, there are 20 planets. With the Custom Galaxies, you can't go below 20 planets. ive been playing 1vs1's on SMALL and those games tend to run for 2-3 hours on HARD. perhaps TINY galaxies with 10 planets would make for a shorter game, or maybe allowing custom maps to drop to as little as 4 or 6 planets. any thoughts?
