I don't think it's an unreasonable thing to have expected the developers to implement something as essential as an algorithm that allows people to start relatively near each other rather than completely at random which usually results in them being way in another star system.

But it's not an occasion thing. If I try playing on a huge map with multiple star systems with my friend... Not once have I been able to even start with him in the same star system, let alone relatively close to his planets. I just feel like it's a huge part of the game that's missing. And I'm sure it's not only coop people who feel it either, but also people who play team games and end up spawning in the middle of all their enemies. That's what happened when I would play 3v3 g

I am enlightened to see this thread of mine bumped... But entirely outraged that there is no mention of this feature anywhere in 1.10, when I had been anticipating it to be there. What's the deal stardock? I haven't touched my game since release, and have been one of the many people asking for this feature since I have played and intend to play primarily coop games on an epic scale with many star systems... yet I can't even play the game that way because every time I try to sta
Raziaar, I think why you haven't seen starting locations addressed is because of the limitations of the map selection process. This isn't like some strategy games where you can click a starting spot or line up numbered starting location to select where you and opponents will start. From what I've been able to gather, starting locations are controlled by some sort of placement algorithm.
Though any properly coded algorithm, even on completely randomized galaxies, would be

Is anybody else concerned about there not being any choice of starting location? I mean, am I the only person who has wanted to be able to start next to my allies in games, whether multiplayer or coop rather than it being random and often in an entirely different star?

Whoa whoa whoa... Where is the stuff about being able to spawn near players on the same team? This is the only feature I have ever cared about to be added, as I feel it is a critical part of my enjoyment of the game because I most intend to play this cooperatively with a friend or with friends... When I start in a large galaxy, I'm going to be spawning in an entirely different star from my friends... I don't see anything in the changes that fixes this... despite being asked for

1.1? Good lord... that's going to take well over a year, unless I'm completely naive about the speed future updates will be released. I'm getting no further enjoyment out of this game until I can actually experience true cooperative play in a large scale system with my close buddies who can invest a lot of time like I can.

For some reason I have thought that in one of these patches the developers would have released a solution to the problem of not being able to start near your allies within the same star, or even in the same star! In my cooperative games, where I like them to be epic with a close friend... we always start in different star systems, which completely destroys the point of playing cooperatively. When you're playing the first 5+ or even more hours alone without any actual contact with your fri

Heh... I was looking around the files and trying to learn what does what. I made this quick little screwball test. It's not a serious effort... just... for fun. Has nothing to do with this thread except it concerns planetary bombardment. I just didn't want to make a new thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeY_78kEAow

Has this already been posted? A map of the star wars universe. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fa/Modimapgalaxy1.jpg

There is currently no way to do this. This really needs to be added, because it is a feature I need to play in order to have fun with my friends. :(

I have had issues with siege spam as well. Though, they haven't been able to do very much, since they don't go beyond my border worlds. I can't destroy them fast enough though... They are in packs of 20-30, and I have a huge fast fleet ready to engage them, but I've been chasing them around for quite a while. The speed in which they can destroy a planet vs how fast I can destroy them is skewed, even with a fleet twice as large as theirs chasing them down. So far my only way of

My finger gets tired zooming in and out with the scroll wheel. I wish there was a way to set the tolerance threshold for the scroll. So that I can zoom in more with larger steps, than having to make it have like 5 rotations to zoom all the way in, then all the way out.

You have your military research, your civic type research, your fleet type research, and your artifacts window(which I still haven't found). The third one, the fleet research. The top portion of that is for capital ship crew training, the bottom part is to increase the number of ships you can have(all ship types, but not capital ship crew).
Starwars sucks.Spaceballs was better than all the movies apart from Ep4/5.
Spaceballs wouldn't be great without Starwars though. Starwars rocks. Not the movies as much as the expanded universe.

You can't have the mentality that you're going to catch him no matter what, that you're always going to catch him. That's what gets you locked into chasing him, you think you're going to chase him and eventually catch up. If he's ahead of you, he's ahead of you. You have to outmaneuver him and anticipate his moves, or just give up until you meet in combat again. There's no shame in letting him go if you're just wasting time chasing him around.

I have 3 gigs of ram in my computer, running steam doesn't really impact my performance of sins if I were actually able to run it and have everything displayed properly.

I am having this problem as well, and it's a real shame really. I love Steam and I use Steam frequently to keep in contact with my friends and let them know what games I'm playing currently. Technically "steam not being supported" shouldn't really be a factor here, because all Steam technically does I think is launch the shortcut with a message that gets sent to steam saying what non steam game you're playing. I mean, I make my own windows applications with Visual Studio, and s

I'm glad you guys found it useful. I mean, it's not much... as it's only an 80 page manual, but it makes it a bit easier to navigate, and I figured since I was doing it for myself I'd share it here. :)

I'm going to keep this post short and sweet. I have taken the time to go in and edit the manual included with the game in the install directory, and augment it so that it includes hyperlinks for navigation within the PDF, as well as bookmarks for more structured navigation. It really makes navigating the document a breeze, as you can go to the table of contents and merely click where you want to go, and it will take you there. Once you are at your destination, you can click a m
