I'm confused, you say you have 1 gig of ram but also say the game takes up 1.5 gigs. This probably won't help you much, but free advice: Having a decent processor like that but an X800 and only 1 gig of RAM is a crime in this day and age. You can easily pick up a 2 gig pack of RAM for less than $50 without looking too hard. Also you can pick up a Geforce 9600 or if you feel more extravagant a 8800 GT for a very low price compared to how top-of-the-line cards used to be priced

My overclock is stable - been running this way for 10 months or more with no crashes outside what's incidental to certain software - but I'd be willing to try. First can you download my savegame and some sort of FPS monitoring software and see how low it goes with both fleets in view? Better yet output a graph of your fps during the battle. I know I said previously that my RAM was never maxed out but it seems that Sins does in fact fill the entire 1.6 gb of free RAM my computer has.

Some more information... I played a 2v2 yesterday, 3 hard AIs. Performance was quite good for most of the game with me getting between 55-60 fps during all normal circumstances. (60fps max due to vsync) However once a battle started all hell broke loose. Performance bogged down significantly when more than a few dozen ships were involved, moreso than I'd expect from Sins. I tried to capture some screenshots but unfortunately they didn't capture my RivaTuner Statistics Serve

Please define "steady frames"... I suspect we simply have different standards. Also I'm running on Very High... though as noted it doesn't make much difference even if I set it on low. Again, I'm not *complaining*, others might be but I'm just asking if this is normal and if there's anything I can do about it. Settle down guys... My motherboard is an Asus P5B-E, a very well-known and reliable board. My sound card is an Audigy SE... not something to be proud of, but I've only

Just to repeat, I can drop all my settings to low and turn off anti-aliasing, and I still get a better framerate in Crysis with all settings to high and AA off. My computer has no bottleneck, I've built computers for years and I very specifically chose all my hardware. I have one of the fastest consumer processors in the world besides quad-core ones, and they're out of the running since the game only uses two cores. At my current 3.15 ghz, I am 50 mhz away from having the fast

Mmm... getting warmer... the units were fully 3D, the terrain was "quasi-3D". It's a flat texture put in place to represent a real heightmap... and the heightmap is real 3D, ie, units rock as they go over bumps, shots get blocked, etc. Since I'm an attention whore I'll point out where you can download Absolute Annihilation v6.0, the final version of my TA mod. It features about 450 units, but unlike unit packs like TAUIP and UTASP, every unit has a unique function, they aren't all jus

FRAPS, the culprit? I really doubt it. I'm not talking about recording a video, I just mean displaying the framerate. FRAPS is extremely widely-used, I really doubt it's capable of reducing the framerate in any game by 15 fps - and even if it did, I would still be getting slow performance considering my computer. I tried reducing all my detail settings to low, and it gained me about 10 fps. I guess I have to agree, the game is just an incredible CPU hog, akin to SupCom. It's a damn

That's not necessarily 100% correct. You're probably also running all your Windows processes on a third CPU, so you're still a little bit ahead of a dual-core setup.

I thought Sins was working quite well on my computer. I noticed hiccups from time to time, but that happens. Then I ran FRAPS to take some videos of the great battles to show my friends, and I notice... wow I'm only getting about 15-25 FPS most of the time. Are there any things that can cause this sort of rather mediocre performance? Considering the game is intended for people with respectable but not cutting-edge computers, I would think I'd have 40+ FPS at the worst of times. My com
Nope, pirates can't travel between stars. Additionally, I believe even with multiple bases in the same system, there will be only one raid total, not one raid per base.
I'm not sure about that, I played a map once that had two pirate bases and there seemed to be two raids launched after every "auction", one from each base. There were also two "cutlass" icons on the pirates screen, one for each target (no leftovers from previous auction). This was with version 1.00 though, ma

Well gotta at least hand it to him for being a man at the end, I know a lot of people who'd make excuses about why they lost. I hope you find a good strategy in the future, though I don't play the game enough to get good at anything but TEC, I'm probably held back a bit by all this discussion about how TEC is the strongest or easiest to play.

Oh my goodness. Kruelgor, go back to Halo. Assuming the MAGOG clan has other members, I can't believe they can stand an embarrassment like you. edit: LOL you're the lead MAGOG guy? Well that explains why you haven't been laughed off the team, now I just wonder why anyone would want to join. Oh and I have a secret keyboard trick too. I type /ignore and don't have to see this nonsense in IRC as well. Gives me a huge advantage against anyone that listens to you, not that anyo

Hi, I'm a professional system builder, so I've got more knowledge about this particular kind of question than the average person. The 9800 pro was a pretty great card in its day, but I wouldn't say it's comparable to a Geforce 6800. I checked some comparisons on Tom's Hardware for exact figures, and although they no longer list the 9800 Pro, they do list the x1300. That particular card I remember especially because I thought about making a small upgrade to it from my 9800 pro, and i

After the intro video, I certainly expected a campaign button... but after playing the skirmish mode I'm not so bothered about it. Personally I rarely if ever play the campaign that comes with a game. Galciv 2 for instance, I think I played like 3 missions before I decided skirmish was more fun IMHO. The game is extremely polished in most areas, and I'll take a game that isn't half-assed over one that's half-assed but full of features (even good ones) any day. I can't tell you how re

GC2 doesn't have to deal with real-time combat, but GC2 is also an exponentially more complex game. I meant "standard" as in, "Standard for Infogrames/Atari/EA/Everyone-but-Stardock". It worries me that they're going to take the evil route sooner or later.

Ship chatter and human speech in general is annoying most of the time, in my opinion. I always just turn it off, and in games where I can't turn it off, I turn the game itself off... It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't "yessir!" "OK" "I'm on it!" "yessir!" "OK" "I'm on it!" "yessir!".... repeat, repeat, repeat... damn it's annoying. The time would be better spent on things that actually add to the game.

Like the Stardock guy says, defenses aren't there to make yourself invincible. They're there to slow your opponent down and give you time to get a fleet there. That said... I've found that if I build 6 fighter bases ringing a planet, then a fighter and bomber in each, with another ring of 6 gauss guns just a little farther outside that ring, I am completely immune to almost any attack, and I rarely even lose a single turret or base. As in, I might lose one base in an entire 5 hour ga

Hi, I wonder if I could get an official reply. I've so far only played this game on a friend's computer... I've played, I think, 4 games so far and I think the game is generally well-designed, if a bit lacking in one or two areas. One of my major concerns is the AI and future support. Is it Stardock's goal with this game to continue to support the developer in making patches and upgrades later on, like you do with Galciv? Or are you taking the more standard, "get things generally wor

@ Satthukaraoke You, a human, managed to crush two fleets controlled by AIs. You did this with 8 exceptionally powerful ships matched against your opponent's 12. Who was an AI. I'm trying to imagine what kind of conclusion you're trying to draw here... The AI in this game isn't as bad as I've seen in many other games, but Galciv2 this is not.
