I don't know if it's too powerful - since there's no guarantee that it'll trigger - but it definitely is a potent ability to take. Knocking it down a notch probably wouldn't be a bad idea for the same points as now.
Since the post - that game in particular has reached a sticking point. Even attempting to attack the Yor in the same condition causes the game to freeze.
You're probably running into another currently known bug. The good news (if it is the same bug) is that the game isn't hung (you can still save, load, etc.) but that it won't let you advance to the next turn. You can work around this one until it's fixed by doing a Quick Save and then loading it.
Minor race tech is a known bug, referenced at least in [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=421&aid=171341"]Overpowered Pirates[/link]. There are two or three other threads about it specifically, though really there's nothing to say other than it happens so, unfortunately, no way to avoid it other than by turning minors off. I haven't seen your issue with the Yor - are you able to repeat it? I know you described the lead-up to at least one occurrence, but does it happen every time
bob, I think the replies mostly feel the opposite - that it isn't a gaming ending weapon precisely because it isn't fast enough and doesn't have defenses or conventional weapons, though if you can build one it's likely that you can win the game anyway. I don't think it's illogical to expect that it should mount weapons, defenses and engines but it might be better (gameplay-wise) for it to not have those options. I do think it should be expanded on though. And I totally agree wi
Yeah, the thing about the high-quality enemy planets is that they are usually very useful to capture rather than destroy, especially if it's an enemy manufacturing center, and especially if it's deep in the heart of enemy territory, and if the AI is working correctly, then the enemy should throw everything they have at your TS, so it wouldn't really be much harder to capture a planet than to destroy its sun. The times I'd imagine myself using one of these thi
Resourceful players will find ways to make the Terror Star useful. i prefer using them to convert those systems with five PQ-0 planets into asteroid fields. in a war, i'd have to look at them as an option for desperation more than anything. it's far more profitable to take over an enemy's planets, but if they're much more powerful than you can hope to be, utterly destroying their worlds might be your best hope at vic
Don't get me wrong, blowing up stars is neat, but I'm not really interested in disintegrating all of the enemy planets. I'm also not interested in having the whole rest of the galaxy mad at me. then why did you reserach and build terror stars in the first place? but they are kinda useless to me because I cant stand anything that moves less than 2 parsecs per turn. my typical
you can blow up planets with them? mine moves but i cant blow plants up and they keep dieing and i agree you should be able to add stuff though
You blow up stars, not planets. The exploding star destroys the planets though. If yours are dying it means you aren't defending it. You can put them in a fleet, so just put in defenders as well :) I find the comparison to nuclear ballistic subs to be pretty apt. They ha
Take a look at [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=421&aid=170729"]this thread[/link]. Whatever the bug is, it's hard to pin down to specifics. You can still work through your game, and in my games I've often had it clear up after awhile.
Except that you said it came out right for some hull sizes. If the formula is wrong about which way to round, wouldn't there still be something fishy going on?
Just to be pedantic about it, if you can save/load/etc the game isn't frozen ;) That being said, there was a bug fixed (or perhaps multiple) in TA beta 3D regarding one type of getting stuck where the Turn button was unavailable. I haven't seen that one any more, but now I do get the above bug where the game will not let you click the Turn button even though it's visible. I've been able to finish every game where this has happened by doing a Quick Save and then load, don
I figured that was probably the reason it had remained, just wasn't sure if that was what was supposed to happen :)
So last night while playing with a Terror Star for the first time I moved it into position (fleeted with a speed-enhancing ship, thank god) and started my war. I'd forgotten about the neutral ground UP treaty that I'd helped pass, but here's the thing - the Terror Star wasn't moved out to neutral ground. Next turn I fired the TS and then lost it (my protective fleet had of course been teleported out), but it wiped out a huge chunk of military and production. Kind of a massive hole in th
By the way BrennanNL, where are you getting your figures for the variable size of each component? Going into the XML or do you have a source online? Maybe the source is wrong? [Edit] Ok, never mind, you're pulling it from the XML with the right base numbers [why am I doing this instead of holiday stuff?! ;)] Anyway, so I went and tried it out in Dark Avatar for Disruptors (Disruptors0 in the XML for DA). Base size for medium hull: 48, base size for Disruptors: 6, mod size: 4. S
I wanted to find out if I should put Psyonic Beams, Disruptors or Phasors VII on my ships. So I made an Excel sheet, searched the web and crunched some numbers. I the following site that explains the mechanics behind weapon size calculation: https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Miniaturization With that, I did some calculating. I saw that weapon size is linked to hull size, using the size mod. Actual weapon size has nothing to do with the lev
Yeah, there are a couple threads on this here - I only ever have invisible Constructors though.
Oh I imagine there are more than one reason you can't end a turn; it was just disappointing to hit one of those other reasons right after updating :)
Sadly, I can confirm that there are still "cannot end turn" bugs. I have a save game that was created from a game started with 3D, so it isn't a hold-over from a save in a previous version. I think it's a different bug and it's been sent in. In this case, I had gotten a "Krynn are growing more and more powerful" event and a 50% speed increase event (Ultradrive?). I was building Large hulled ships to take them out anyway, so I sent my first ship their way to start laying waste.
The Thalans and the Altarians are not enabled for this beta as was previously scheduled because they are going to be wicked cool and with all the excitement of Christmas we were concerned for your heart condition. what Heart Condition I though i was OK !!! <br/
I deleted my GC2TwilightArnor folder from My Games and let it recreate it, but it didn't help. I've sent in a save w/ debug file to Stardock (and just realized I forgot to reference this thread, drat).
Running TA B3C (0.92[b].004) from 12/14 I'm getting invisible constructors again. I'm going to delete my My Games\TA galciv folder and will send in a save game/debug.err if it's still happening after that. One thing that's was strange is that my very first constructor was visible, but after that, gone.
I'm relatively new to the game and playing on Normal, so take this for what you will. I tend mostly to the medium hulls, especially in a game with very few habitable planets and a small/medium universe (and lately with Slow tech). In that situation the maintenance cost of my military just skyrockets as I put bigger and better tech on my ships, making large+ hulls an expensive proposition. Not to mention production time, when you might only have one planet that's really capable of buildi
I'd definitely look forward to more expansions, especially if a GCIII wouldn't be until 2010 at the earliest. Enhancing the diplomatic and UP options, the economy, invasions... to put it another way, every expansion so far hasn't been just "ok, here's a new unit X to play with" but has changed gameplay in significant, thoughtful and - to me - 'happy' ways. So yes, I would buy another couple expansions while waiting for GCIII. I can't say I'm interesting in multiplayer for GC2. I like playing aga
You know, I like that idea a lot zarquon - hadn't occurred to me, but I feel like it should have :)
I'll be uploading my own instance of this bug tonight. I don't know if this is reported in this (or other) threads, but when the Turn button disappeared for me I also couldn't move the view. If I clicked and dragged, the view would shift a small amount and then snap back to where it was. My save is from a few turns before the bug manifests, which gave me some options to try and get around it. For me, the bug seems to be related to trying to rush buy a ship to protect a planet from an in
