Maybe I'm just not remembering the original properly. Can someone please be more specific on exactly what is now missing? -HM
Hollow Man
Movie seems the same to me. -HM
Link Side note: I updated by manually ownloading the patch, but afterward, Stardock Central still wanted to update the tutorials, movies, and multimedia. Not sure why the downloaded patch file doesn't update all of the game. -HM
Simply put, since there are no other applications I want to use that need .NET, why would I put it on? It's a fairly large application that does who-knows-what to one's PC. -HM
Unlikely. I found that link from an answer on their support page, for folks who bought a used copy of the game and can't update to 1.1 (because the original owner still has the game registered to them). But it can't hurt to download it and store it somewhere for the future! -HM
Unfortunately, it needs .NET, which I won't install on my PC. -HM
Wiki site is nice, but I agree that having something in game would be cool. Ah well, can't have everything. -HM
Activation/Internet isn't required if you buy the boxed version and wish to play the CD version. You only need it if you want to update the game. -HM
My understanding is that once you activate the product you won't have to do it again. I bought the USA boxed version, installed it from the CD, then used Stardock Central to register the game and download the first official patch and some of the betas. This process gave me the sig.bin file. Last week I downloaded the 1.1 patch from their web site, then installed it last night (didn't use Stardock Central). It never asked me to activate - most likely because I already had
To get the default race stats back, you'll need to delete the CurrentCustomRaceX.raceconfig files in this folder: C:\Documents and Settings\your username\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 -HM
Duma did say he reinstalled the current drivers, plus a few different older ones. In addition to trying the card in a different PC, I'd try using some kind of "driver cleaner" program to make sure all old driver parts are erased from the system, then install the newest driver again. -HM
It looks like the link under the Collector's Edition section is still wrong, but if you go to the following link, it should be to the right patch: Linky! -HM
No problem, Skelton42. You can go on to read the Blaze and Blade review, which is equally fantastic. Duma should paraphrase this quote to anyone else who says his video card was going to die anyway: "At this point, you might be wondering whether my monitor was about to die anyway. All I can say is that why don't you try using that same logic on the surviving family members of people killed in a plane crash and see how it holds up there." -HM
I miss the guys of Old Man Murray. Just about everything they wrote was hilarious. But this sounds like a case where the card was starting to go. But to be sure it's the card and not some screwball Windows or driver remnant problem, try putting the video card in a different system. -HM

Spellborn looks cool on a first look. Is it going to be subscription based? Chuck Yeager's Flight Sim - what a game! -HM
Psio, I have not played Guild Wars as much as I would've liked, but what I have done so far is cool. It loads fast, updates to the game load rapidly (and yeah, it seems there's some update every day!), and the game plays very smoothly on my PC (and it sure is pretty). There were some laggy issues first few weeks of release, but that seems to have passed (we'll see what happens this weekend, with the release of Factions). I'm LANning with friends this weekend, and my prima
What, no Q3? My pile of games is huge. Unfortunately, I tend to buy them more than play them, so there's lots that I've not finished. I've currently gotten back into gaming after a 6-8 month lull, so I'm trying (with moderate success) to play GalCiv2, Civ4, Serious Sam 2, Guild Wars, Freespace 2, and Knights of the Old Republic, all at the same time. It doesn't begin to scratch the surface of all the games I have. And unfort., Half Life 2: Episode 1 and SiN Episodes are
Thought I would pass this back to the top, -HM
TheFeshy, Unfortunately, you erred when you assumed you only needed the serial for using the Metaverse. Stardock has explained in their literature that you would need a registered game to use the patches. Granted they weren't explicit as to the fact that you'd need to enter it at initial install, plus again when patching, but they did make it clear that a serial is needed to use the updates. -HM
Do any of you guys own a Valve product? Where you simply CAN'T update unless the machine that has the game is connected to the Internet? There's no option to be able to download the patches as separate files. If you don't have the Internet, you simply can't patch the game (and you have to have connectivity to even run the game the first time out). Granted Stardock's methods aren't perfect, but like with most things in the world, there is worse out there. -HM
Actually, according to Stardock, 256 MB of RAM is the minimum. Of course it isn't clear from the system requirements if they mean you'll be ok with small galaxies, but you won't be able to play on large. Make sure you don't have anything unusual using up memory. Go to the Windows Task Manager and see what's running. -HM
With Valve, it's unfortunately worse because you can't even play Half-Life 2 without first activating it. So yes, even if you bought the CDs in a box at the store, you need to have Internet in order to start it up the first time (after that, it's possible to put it in "off-line mode"). At least Stardock will allow you to play GalCiv2 the first time out without activating it. It's only when you want to patch it that you need some sort of connectivity. Valve also won't let
I'm currently running 1.10[b4].016 and was wondering if my save game will work if I update to 1.1 official (1.10.027). I'm guessing that I'm not the only one around here with this question, so hopefully this will help out others in the community. Thanks, -HM
